we have just relocated our gas bottles from the inside hatch of our Jayco Heritage to the wheel well on drawbar, Meant relocating wheel also but are very happy with result. Bottles were difficult to get at and heavy to lug into deep hatch, also gives us a bit more storage area. A great job completed by a clever bloke in Geraldton WA.
When I ordered our 2000 model Jayco, I asked for a drawbar shorter than standard (to more comfortably fit in our shed). We picked the van up at the dealer in Melbourne, and I backed up to hitch it to my Range Rover. All good, until I had to do a hard turn to the right to get out of the dealer's yard. CLANG! The rear bumper of the tug hit the gas bottle which was mounted on the R side drawbar. First thing to do when we got home was to make up a bracket and relocate the gas bottle to the centre of the drawbar. A simple job really, and whilst I was at it, I put a sheet of Galv steel wrapped in front of the bottle to act as a stone guard. I think that the centre mount actually is more stable and secure than the original position which merely had 2 lugs welded to the top side of the drawbar.
Mounting the spare wheel on the side of the drawbar - does the rear bumper of the tug hit it on full lock turns?
No problem turning full lock as towbar has decent length, also clears the stabaliser bar fittings that are attached forward of the wheel. Thanks for your comments
