Cattle stations in the Kimberley region of Western Australia have had an extremely wet start to 2017.
There were some huge rainfall totals this week across the region, including 200 millimetres in just 24 hours at Christmas Creek Station.
Water snaking through the green Fitzroy Valley, WA.
The Kimberley's Fitzroy River is in flood.
More rain on the way
The East Kimberley town of Kununurra has broken a record of sorts, with the local airport rain gauge receiving 386.4 millimetres so far for January, beating its previous January rainfall total record of 358.8mm set in 2014.
However, it should be noted that Bureau of Meteorology records show the Kununurra township received 520.4mm in January 1962.

Aaaaah the best place in the world to be for a wet season......my nine years on Mt Barnett Station GRR saw some amazing rainfalls....one January we did not see sunshine for the whole month.......needless to say our lawn was an interesting color ....... and a couple of times the Barnett River rose enough to flood the roadhouse and some houses in the community across the road.......awesome times........
Anyone in the north west for a few months would just love it......if they did not go troppo.....

We know what you mean about the change in the country, in the wet season, Bushpie,
Travelled through the N.W. just after the "Big Wet" several years back, I was amazed at the change in the country,
especially the green grass, it had all come through at the same time, and to me it looked like someones front lawn that had just been mowed, amazing, as this area was hundreds of km's from the nearest homestead.
Best time of the year, that is , like you say, If you don't go Troppo !!! That Humidity is enough to turn anyone from a Religious Nutta, to an alcoholic over night. LOL

Completed a trip across the Simpson last October. I've been there before. Not used to seeing green growth up to the Land Cruiser's windows in that part of the country...
The sand dunes were no problem at all. We simply drove over them with the tyres sinking in about 1" at most. The clay pans were another story....
