Busselton Health Campus: WA Premier says building faults not an issue as patients served food from truck !!!
Faulty ceilings and wall panels have forced the closure of the kitchen and other parts of the $120 million Busselton Health Campus, prompting a temporary food truck to be set up outside.
The hospital was officially opened by Premier Colin Barnett and Health Minister Kim Hames in March 2015.
Makes you wonder where have all the Tradesmen gone,
Not even opened two years, and falling apart already !!!

Dodgy tradesmen are a minor part of the equation. Of more importance are the officials who approve and appoint these dodgy tradesmen and I wonder if any incentives were offered to and accepted by these officials. As usual they won't be investigated. Then of course there are the "Site Supervisors" who are supposed to monitor the build.
On the positive side the patients are most probably enjoying some decent food for a change.
"Yep" Quote from our Premier...........Premier Colin Barnett said the faults were disappointing, but were not a major issue.
"There's a defect in the ceilings, it's been fixed, the hospital is still operating," he said.
The Premier is describing lots of these things as non-issues he's had non-issues at the children's hospital, non-issues at Fiona Stanley [Hospital], at what point do we say actually they've been incompetent in running the health service?"
The union representing hospital staff said the health campus had been returned to a construction site.
"This is an absolutely extraordinary thing to happen when you've spent $120 million of taxpayers money on a new hospital," United Voice WA assistant secretary Pat O'Donnell said.
"This first came to light mid-last year and we find out now that it's going to continue to be a construction site for the foreseeable future, and that means an impact on the community and impact on our members."

Ask Pat O'Donnell: Why doesn't the Health worker's union talk to the Building worker's union about crappy builders - rather than trying to get political points.

Faulty building is rife in WA. Just ask anyone that has built a home. The government should be congratulated for using independant building inspectors during construction on the stadium and childrens hospital after Fiona Stanly hospital disasters, when it was discovered that cold water fittings were used on the boiling water pipes. The contractor of the childrens hospital says it has cost $200m to fix up what the government had discovered. Hopefully these big contractors will not be trying to cut so many corners. Maybe it will flow through and fix the home building industry.

This is the third new hospital in WA that's had major defects. (I think there's only been 3 built in that time). "Faulty ceilings and wall panels".....Does this mean they've used those panels containing asbestos again? Then there was the failure of the new Water Park at Victoria Quays. I hope the builders are paying for this and not the taxpayer! Something is really wrong with the planning.
"Yep" it does make you wonder if there is any forward planning at all,
Look at the kafuffal over the new Stadium, all most finished and the only thing that MIGHT be played there is the Cricket, They still can't come to any agreement with the A.F.L,
I think anyone in their right mind would have secured bookings for the Stadium BEFORE it was started !!!

This is partly due to the governments removal of red tape which means less oversight and the employment of non-union contractors. Add a few 457 visa workers and it means quick profit.
Hard to find a real old fashioned tradesman these days, they've all retired & joined our grey nomad ranks. Modern building techniques are crap & won't age well at all. No such thing as ''built to last'' these days.

I recall back in the late 60's, in the days of Allan Bond, I was working with the (Then called ) P.M.G. Dept, we were laying phone cable in the new Suburb of Yanchep,
At that time Allan Bond was in full flight, making money hand over fist, The story goes that he actually built hundreds of homes in Yanchep, with-out a single Permit. there was some holdup in the issue of the Permits as there was no building inspection being done of the land , as most West Aussies know, Yanchep was once a great sand pile and very little solid ground.
This little problem didn't stop Bondie, who said that if he was stopped from building, he would take his money out of the West, so the building boom took off, that was until one night there was a terrific wind storm which blew over many homes under construction.
We were living in our 23 ft caravan in the Yanchep Caravan Park at this time and the wind was so strong, we felt it lift our caravan up onto two wheels, luckily for us it came back down again, but vans on either side were upside down when we ventured out the next morning,
Looking around the new homes, we could hardly believe the damage done, there were walls being held up with bits of 4x2 timber every-where ,
the amazing part of this building disaster was that not one home was demolished afterwards all the walls were jacked back into place and held there while the houses were completed, !!!
I often wonder how many of these houses have developed cracks in them at a later date. ???
