Of all the "Toyota Personal Carrier" owners out there, what is the best service you have had? and no fibs please. To start things off I'll give my info.
In 1992 I bought a 2nd hand one with 50,000 Kms on the speedo. It was from the NSW Power company, and I bought it in Osborne Pk WA, and had "Trusty Troopy" written on the wind breaker on the bonnet. I sold it in 2004 and in those 14 years it only cost me some batteries and tyres and wiper blades over those 14 years and 325,000 Kms.
I might add it spent 13 of those 14 years in Carnarvon WA.
I'm the same with the Patrols.
had 2.
towed vans all over AUst never missed a beat.
with the added advantage of much better economy,
Definitely more comfort. and towing speeds than any Toyota
up to the 4 valve late model 100..
YOU are lucky in that you bought the only model Tojo made worth having
since the 60 ser.
A slug. But a long term runner.
Be thankful.
That's the one I'd have bought if the Patrol wasn't so good.
Decent suspension and a suspeension drivers seat would make it lots more comfortable too.
They ain't the best for that.
But unfortunately,. Not a good (too slow) towing machine.
great as a truck.
I had my 97 Parado V6 petrol for 15 years. sold it privately in 2012 with 455,000km. Serviced it every 5,000km with oil filter. Transmission serviced every 20,000km. Changed the plugs in it x 2, brake pads x2 tyres x5.
The only reason I sold it was it was just to slow towing / not enough torque going up hills with the boat on.
At the end of the Mining boom I got the sale of the century on a 2012 GX TTD cruiser, with long term plan for towing in retirement.
I have used the truck for work till retirement earlier this year. Now it sits ready for towing duties only. We use the Corrolla around 95% of the time in every day use.
I never want to buy/use another tow truck. I took the back seats out and saved a extra 106kg in weight.
We had a 91 model with the 1HZ diesel for over ten years, as it was only our "weekend/holiday" vehicle it had only done 160k in that time, never let us down and was a pleasure to drive. Bumped into the bloke that bought it about ten years after that and it was still going well with nearly 400k on the clock by then.
