Not good enough really.

When we worked bush the concensus with most of us.
Was that any we found actually lighting a fire.

Find the centre of the front. Take his shoes off and drop him off. with a parting kiss
(so to speak)
Probably a broken leg If I ever find one.

I was brought up on the old "An eye for an eye".
and wholly believe in it. Plus expect same back in return.

Laws and punishments for. in the "modern" world are laughable.

We need some of the old school rules\punishments brought back.
Then, Just maybe.
The world may get to be a better place to live in again.

First step being , get rid of all sitting lawmakers involved with punishments.
and get some in that will punish to suit the crimes.

I doubt too many of general populace would object too much.

Forget the bleeding hearts and do gooders. THEY are
one of the prime reasons the world is as it is today..

Agree too, but wait 6 months and some do gooder judge will reduce his sentence considerably on appeal.

Being an Ex-Firefighter, I've witnessed some very big and dangerous Bush-fires,

Many of which were started by Arsonists,

I've seen up close the devastation caused, and the heartache of people as they watch their dreams of a life time go up in flames,

Fire fronts, of 3, 4, 5 Mt in height, travelling a terrific speed, that no Fire Brigade have a hope in hell of stopping,

I just think,"what the hell" are some of these Judges thinking, when they give most Arsonists nothing more than a small slap on the hand, I bet they have never been effected by a fire, if they had been it may show in the sentence's they hand out,

There doesn't seem to be any standard set sentence for anything in the Courts, mores the pity. I think this is long over-due,

Commit the Crime---Do the time, and pay for the Damage caused by the Act !!!

K.J. Slightly off context but, A very good friend had two homes lost in Her life the first was by fire (domestic house fire) and the second by flood. The most traumatic to her by many 'miles' was the first. Even though She lost every thing in both the fire was just so complete & devestating. Oh & Her third was reposessed because of gambling debts. She still laughs though.

Just cannot imagine anyone wanting to cause that much trauma to another person.

I've not seen too many convicted arsonists getting away with a "slap on the wrist" although it is fashionable to blame our judges for doing this.
It's an interesting fact that when groups of ordinary citizens are given all the facts and asked to arrive at a suitable sentence, they often suggest punishments that are less than what the judges give them. Strange, but true...

If you want to see what sentences are handed out for various crimes you can go to the sentencing remarks in some jurisdictions:

I don't know if other states do anything like this, maybe others can advise.

You are correct, COOP. Unfortunately the full story is not reported in the media when people are sentenced leaving the reader with the view that a lesser than appropriate sentence has been given. The DPP is not slow in appealing if they consider a sentence to be lenient. One of the more disturbing aspects of arson is the large number of fires deliberately lit by fire fighters, not by way of back burning, but with a criminal intent.

Coop, I've had a look through that list of Court appearances you refer to,

Could you Highlight the ones regarding the sentencing of Fire Bugs, or Arsonists ?

There is plethora of papers, articles and statistics on the occurrence of this aspect of arson, KJ. In States that have three jurisdictions of criminal courts you will find reference in the District or County Courts, in the others, look under Supreme Court. I know, I have appeared on their behalf.
