Bruxner Hwy : Casino-Tenterfield

Can anyone advise what this hwy is like? I am driving a Suburu Forester and towing a Jayco Eagle camper trailer...within tow ball and tare weight recommendations...wd prefer powerful 4WD but thatsnot what I've got! I had a scare in a campsite just south of Murwillumbah where they sent met me up a steep ridge to my site. I couldn't do run up...got stuck...smoking clutch etc....towed by tractor to site....I know next time to walk the track and not necessarily trust the word of the employee at the campsite! Consequently, I'm a little nervous of steep hills.....the Kuranda range, far north Qld (1000ft up - 15kms is not a problem). I know I'll use a bit of fuel but will I get up that mountain range???.....your advice appreciated!! P.s. would it be more sensible to go up the Gwydir Hwy or is that not much better?

Thanks fot that....I had seen that post...I've got to get up to the New England Hwy and i had been told the Gwydir hwy, Grafton to Glen Innes was worse....so I guess I just have to give it a go and let my fellow travellers on this site know if its ok with a Suburu Forester and Jayco camper trailer!!

If you don't feel confidant don't do it!!

Or maybe if you do, go very early at daylight.

That Rd is very steep and lots of narrow bends and a lot of Tourist buses everyday.

I travel the Gwydir highway, a much better road than the Bruxner.
