Someone suggested earlier that coopers Were good.  Beaurepaires have special this saturday n wondering what does everyone recommend. They r in a book they gave strop with good year written on it and were told they r good tyres for towing, efficient grip suv. 90% on road grip, 10% offroad. Mainly stay on the tar. What do u think?

Coopers are overvalued and as far as I am aware to get the warranty, you have to get the wheels rotated every 10,000 klms at extra cost to you. Someone please correct me if that is wrong.

Gday...

The 10,000Km rotation of tyres is free at any Cooper dealer ... not just the one from whom you purchased the tyres.

However, I think that when it comes to choosing tyres it is about as difficult as choosing a life-long partner cry and about just as emotional a decision.

99% of all tyres on the market are good tyres ... However, it is all dependent on the vehicle you own, how you use it, what sort of driver you are, and a large number of other variables. There may be some consideration in the country of manufacture - but that doesn't always ring true either.

It is good to seek the opinions of others but ultimately, it will be your own choice. Quite probably it would be best if you were to find someone with the EXACT model and year of vehicle as you, with the same wheels and who uses their vehicle the same or similar to how you use it - eg type of roads usually travelled, loads carried, annual Km travelled, towing or not, has the same philosophy as you on tyre pressures ... the list could go on and on and on.

I am currently on my third set of Cooper tyres - first two sets lasted for 130,000Km ... the current set have been on for 10,000Km. I have found them excellent. I rarely have to top up air in them and in seven years I have only had one puncture - a wood screw penetrated the tread when parking in a caravan park.

BUT ... I have a Land Rover Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Diesel. They seem to suit the vehicle ... but does that mean they will suit you vehicle ?? or your use of your vehicle?? I am unable to provide that information.

Cheers - John

Not wanting to start WW3, but I would not go Coopers. Many will have stories about the good and bad, but I can only go on my own experiences.
My daughter has been involved in the tyre industry for many years, and when I needed tyres for the 80 series, asked her to do the research. Price was not a consideration as I knew I would get a good price. The result came up for BFG A/T.
Later when she had a Coopers dealership, she would still not recommend them to me.
Her current research suggests that Generals may also be worth looking at.
The first set of BFG's returned 80000km, before they were sold with plenty of tread, on the Kimberley Kamper.
The second set has done 65000 km, still plenty of tread, but a bit of chipping from some serious off road corrugations.
For the 145000km travelled, 80000km has been towing and of that 30000km off road, and no punctures.

At the risk of being told "I'm talking rubbish", I had a bit of a fright when stopping in one of our cars, the tires seeming to just glide over the bitumen. Talking to my friends at Bob-Jane's, I was told there is a trade off. You can get hard rubber that will give you many km's, or a softer rubber for better braking, but they wont last the same distance. If that is the case, I'm going for the softer rubber.

Copy of my post from Jan : just replaced 4 Bridgestone 275/65-17 D697 LT Tyres. Total price; Supply, fit, balance, wheel alignment, hand torqued wheel nuts $1,240. Bridgestone Select Dealer at Terminus St Liverpool Great guys friendly and knowledgeable Hundreds cheaper than all quoted from other major dealers and tyre shops - Won me.
These have proven to be a good quiet ride in all conditions and surfaces - hard to beat for quality.

My Patrol had Bridgestones on it when I purchased it.

They developed big flat spots that went thump thump as I crawled about the quiet suburban streets.  Gave me a hell of a fright.

I have since had two sets of Cooper HTs as I do 99% on the blacktop.  Got >80,00km out of each set with no probs.

I have recently put on a set of General's because of price & the expectation of doing far fewer KM before I retire the beast.  They are wearing well too.

I'm just about at the end of my Bridgestone Duellers, 697, AT,LT, and I'm pretty disgusted that I will be lucky to get 30 to 32 thousand out of them. After talking to a tyrepower rep, he told me that they were a relatively soft compound and wouldn't last that long considering my lifestyle, a shame that wasn't mentioned when I bought them as the only reason I did was because I couldn't get any 693 profiles which had usually produced at least 60 to 70k each set. Talking to a few outlets in the last couple of weeks and there doesn't seem to be any set ideas which which ones are more suitable for the different situations as every one has had their own different experiences.

Lots of tyres. Lots of story's.
I read of a coupla dealers (one in Rocky) that stopped stocking coopers.
Too many returns.
I've tried a few, but tend to stick to Bridgy's nowadays.

My 2 Patrols both gave around 50\52k out of their A\T's..
BUT. I change my tyres at around 25% wear.
Never go lower. and in 50 yrs. Probably had 3 punctures.
and always good grip on all surfaces.

I change
otate wheels every oil service. 10k all 5 tyres.

Check pressures normally every fill. unless travelling.

then every morn.

Just remember to get the 10 P\R tyres. NOT the 8 p
.
They do wear better, with stronger rated walls.

I like Pirelli's too.

But mainly on my cars..

Gday...

Good to get responses to questions and hopefully they helped.

I would love to know which tyre you finally choose.

Cheers - John

BFG are a great tyre if you can afford them, bearing in mind that you certainly end up in front based on the life of the tires its not uncommon too get in excess of 100000 klm, another long life tyre and what I am running now are pirelli scorpions mine now at 89000 and still fair bit to go also probably over 100000.
