Hello fellow Grey Nomad. I live in Cooma, heart of the Snowy Mountains/Kosciuzko. I been up and down those winding mountain roads many times with either caravan or horse float. My routes were Cooma-Jindabyne-down the Alpine way to Khancoban (where the signs "Not suitable for caravans" still stand) and on; Cooma-Adaminaby-Cabramurra-down past Tumut Pond reservoir and Tooma Reservoir ti join up with the Alpine Way, left to Khancoban, right to Corryong; or, turn-off shortly before Cabramurra and on via Elliott Way. My last trip was a year ago when I bought my new caravan, i.e second hand, in Wangaratta and came up to Cabramurra in the reverse, UPHILL! Make sure you negotiate these routes with caution, take your time, enjoy the spectacular scenery and even pull over for an overnighter. Plenty of superb free camping/caravn spots along the way. Hullo Desert Dweller. If you are travelling southwest direction Khancoban via the Alpine Way and come to the park entry booth just before Thredbo the trick is NOT to tell the watchful ladies that you are about to tackle the Alpine Way with your rig. They will point out that big "Not suitable for Grey Nomads" sign. I always tell them that I stop along the Thredbo River for a spot of camping. If one comes the other way, uphill, there's no one to tell a story to... biggrin Gitta
