Thong trees

We made the popular press (remember the Australasian Post?) in around 1974 with a picture of our 'Beer Tree' on Fraser Is.

Hung a mess of empty beer cans on the branches of a dead tree on the frontal dune.

Wouldn't do it these days though ..  but ..

On a trip round the block in 2000 I started gathering discarded thongs and hanging them from my van's rear bumper. Had a great collection ready for my BBQ area at home (got the inspiration from one of the old cottages on the beach at Kirra).  Was instructed to dump them in the bin at Pemberton!

There is a thong tree near Cooktown where all the thongs that wash up on the beach are hung. I have hung several. The stupid thing is that they are all the same foot! I can't remember if it is left or right, but it is to do with the currents. All of that foot end up on the east coast of Australia. The other foot ends up somewhere else. Crocs are the same apparently! I couldn't believe what I was being told until I saw it for myself!

Would rather a bra or panty tree . Lol

There is a nickers tree on the gunbarrell hwy. near Cobar.

It is off the road a bit so a lot of people would miss it.

Are you sure it was lava???  If there was flies on it, could be something else!.
