Thong trees

Just wondering how many 'thong trees' there are out in the playground. I'm camped near this one at Lloyd Jones Weir just out of Barcaldine in central Qld, although there is other footwear "adorning" this one, and it doesn't appear that any of them are nailed to the tree.

Not sure Joe50, but I seem to remember a thong tree out on the Carnarvon / Gascoigne Junction road (WA), many moons ago. Anybody know if it is still there?

Tongue in cheek

I think that I heard on the grapevine, an unconfirmed report that Thong/Jandel type trees, are grown by people with little, or no practicability

Over in the West, we are now growing Mooring Trees

The Mooring Tree, is a practicable tree.
In time of flood, the mooring will rise, and they will be seen from a distance
This will alert the traveller, that they are in a floodplain area, without them getting their feet wet, so to speak

Below is a picture of such a tree

Sorry blaze, but I think it would be a good idea if we started a whole heap of Thong Trees / Jandels, and people used a felt pen to put their e-mail address on the thongs they leave in a tree. After some time we could draw a map of these trees all around Aus and gain some new friends.
YES ? NO ?

Along the Nullabor there are several similar trees. In our travels we have seen a boot tree, kitchen tree, and just outside of Madura there is a bra tree.

A lot on here preach no generators, no camp fires, we pick up rubbish at campsites, or the good old grey water, maybe even the floating dunny roll but hell its ok to hang up a bloody rubber thong that wont bio degrade and call it ok, well I call it for what it is, environmental vandalism.

There is a thong/boot tree at the Melrose SA. showgrounds.

There is ( or used to be ) a bicycle tree near Dajarra.

When I read  the title for this topic my mind imediately thought of thong as in underwear not thong as in footwear.

There used to be a "Tree of Lost Soles" at Archer Point near Cooktown and people had written their hometown and country of origin. Made interesting reading.

I wouldn't dare say old age equals narrow mind but, there are a couple of comments here that make me wonder.

I just feel you maybe having a dig at me, that's ok, I can handle that. So instead of calling me narrow minded why don't you open yours a little and explain to me why its ok to hang rubbish in trees (and be proud of it) and its not ok to put toilet paper in the bush, leave rubbish at camp sites, maybe a stack of tyres on the side of the road, run my genie all night which are all environmentally unfriend to say the very least

blaze

ps yep it is a sore point with me and I will defend my right to express my view until my last breath

I won't tell lambie why we are camped up there, cause that bl....dy rollin pin she users, just might reappear.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

When the thong tree is ready to be picked it could be turned into something else.
