First big Trip

Hi All

Just looking for some advice. We are looking to do our 1st big trip (3 months)  in our Nova van We have had it since new 2010 and have in the last six months had the brakes and wheel bearings serviced added extra water and a grey water tank.

Is there any thing else I should be looking at before a big trip to help ensure a safe run.

Also is there any tips for free camping watch outs.

Our plan is to head out just after Easter 2017 and head from Adelaide to Darwin the across to Broom then follow the WA coast down to its southern point then head home.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention we will be travelling with 2 Jack Russel's

Have a great trip but be sure of your weights having added another water tank (grey water doesn't matter as the water is already onboard)

I always carry a spare set of wheel bearings already packed with grease, just in case. Also a few John Guest fittings, couple of tees, joiners, elbows and a short length of John Guest hose, been caught out before and you will find it just about impossible to find any outside big cities.

Two jacks for certain situations where one is not enough, blocks of wood for under the jack etc. Depending on the type of suspension, make sure your jack will fit under when a tyre is flat.

Might not need any but if you do you can get out of trouble.

Received this advise at 19 years of age, when I towed a family member caravan in the Kalgoorlie region

Take it easy, drive to the road conditions, and it is not a crime to go a bit slower

Hope that you have a safe anf very enjoyable road trip

a) The speed limits are just that. A limit, not a target.

b) Be nice to your wife and thank her for her efforts often (however useless they may have been). A van is not a nice place when one of you has the sulks.

Enjoy that's the whole objective.  1 item you will need is Nature's Botanicals. It is an amazing fly repellent.  It contains cedar oil and Rosemary oil. Honestly you won't believe how wonderful it is until you try it! We even take the lid off and put it on the table (in Winton fly city) and no flies around our food. It might seem a minor problem atm but so many places have major fly problems so to enjoy the experience you will need this.

Natures botanical can also be used on your Jack Russell s to keep flies out of there eyes. We used it on our border collie. It worked a treat.

We also carry 2 battery operated shoo away gadgets to put on the dinner table when eating outdoors. Www.shooaway.com.  we bought ours from the solar shop on Caboolture. About 25.00 each

Thanks for the tip on shooaway Dunmowin, just placed an order. I hate any sort of spray.
