Hello all - have not long finished a trip around western Qld. - could have done more but unfortunately time ran out. The country looks great (I suppose there was some green weeds in amongst the grass but made it look good). Not many stock around but what we saw were doing really well. Rivers and dams were full. Just hope the people on the land can get some income now if they have some stock to sell. Went to the dinosaur museum/laboratory at Winton which was great. There is a canyon walk to be opened about Easter time next year - should be interesting. The stampede at Lark Quarry was also very interesting - just to think that these prints were put there approx. 95 million years ago - mind boggling really. The towns out that way should be really proud of themselves - the towns were all clean and tidy - plants/trees growing - great community spirits.
What we were hearing was disappointing to say the least - people (including grey nomads and backpackers) were stealing toilet paper from pubs, caravan parks etc. Surely these people can't be that poor that they can't afford toilet paper - at the end of the day someone has to pay for it. There was even a story of a lady went into a toilet with a cordless drill and undid the big round toilet rolls holder - someone heard what she was up to and got the police and he caught her on the way out. I ask myself have these people stolen things all their life, if they had kids did they tell them not to steal and then go and do it themselves, why? This is not giving travellers a very good name - those who do this spoil it for everyone else that tries to do the right thing. It will soon be byo toilet paper.
Unfortunately there are always going to be dishonest people around, they are a minority, but they have been dishonest all their lives and now just because they have retired only changes one aspect of their lives, they are now Seniors, but still thieving scum.
Cheers
David
We heard a group of people sitting around a happy hour campfire at Genoa donation camp, all of them were bragging about how many dunny rolls they'd knocked off, how much pump soap they'd managed to syphon off & how many places that they'd overstayed the time limit on their travels. They'd been at Genoa 10 days, it has a 72 hour limit these days. They got their biggest laugh when they all said that they hadn't donated a cent. What a group of bloody drongos!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually seen them roll the bloody toilet paper off the roll, onto a paint roller! The fact that they had a roller with them on their travels says they planned to steal it! :(
It's not just the toilet rolls or the soap, the dodging of camp fees when an honesty box is there to be used or another one we have heard of if the camp site has a volunteer that ccomes around late in the afternoon, they brag about arriving after he has done the rounds and leave early in the morning. Who do they think pays for these amenities?
The one that really gets me is the large and small self contained motorhomes (often worth a few years salary) parked length ways in three or four parking spots on the beach fronts which clearly are NOT camping sites. No wonder the locals do not want campers in the area, these same people are the ones that use the public amenities, etc and expect it all for free.
Hi Nelly, I did the Age of Dinosaurs and Lark Quarry on Sunday and Monday (now in Longreach). Have to agree about the countryside - it looks fantastic, green hills and plains as far as the eye can see. Hope you can continue your travels soon.
Cheers
Joe

Can't remember which camp, (Lloyd Jones Weir I think), where beside the toilets there was a grave with a headstone which read "Here lies the body of the last person to steal toilet paper"! I think the message got through as there was always plenty of paper in there.
It's not just the dunny rolls and paper they steal. Just as the roadside stall holders who are the travellers who steal their fruit and other wares. They will tell you it's the motorhomers and those with the large gin palace caravans.
