Any recommendations re commercial caravan parks at Parkes?

Have also posed this question on the recommendations/caravan parks post. Have been researching caravan parks at Parkes to fit with a couple of trips being planned. The usual sites one looks at for comments re caravan parks fails to really recommend any of the parks I have looked at at Parkes. Surely there are consistently good caravan parks at Parkes. Comments/recommendations please.

You woul probably find caravan perks in major centres would have a considerable number of reviews on Trivadvisor ie caravan parks fall under accommodation.

Try that and see how you go.

Somebody on here bagged a park and was accused of defamation recently.

I thought this was one of the reasons for the forum to let people know their experiences so others can make an informed choice and decide for themselves.

I don't know about the Caravan Parks in Parkes it is always around mid day when I pass through on my travels. Be interesting to see who recommends what.

I used to use the Spicer Caravan Park before Christmas for a couple of weeks each time .. I've not used it for about 2 years now so I do not know of the current status or costings of the Park.

Never had a problem at all but make sure you do book in early .. Usually it is booked out solid from and including each new year ..

good luck !

Thank you all. Have looked up Tripadvisor and other such sites and nearly all comments re caravan parks at Parkes are negative. I of course realise some people would find fault anywhere, but I regularly use Tripadvisor for research and overall find it pretty near the mark. Spicers has been mentioned, but from what I have read the powered sites are anything but level, and there were plenty of other adverse comments. I am a bit at a loss as have checked out a number of other parks at Parkes. I will wait and see what turns up on this forum before deciding whether to alter our plans or take the plunge. People say to check out the park before booking in, but we want to know where we are staying rather than arrive somewhere and find the parks booked out. That is just us, just the way we like to operate.

There are both grass and concrete sites at Spicers .. and yes .. few grass sites there would be on a level surface .. personally,  I'm not fussed about chocking up to level .. each to their own, I suppose ..

cheers ..

Have you checked here :- acpr.myparklist.com/

Most reports are genuine and realistic we have found, and we give reports too there, but not stayed in Parkes, we normally stop in Forbes free camp area down the Newel but unsure how it's been affected by the recent floods now.

We went to book in to Spicers Park on a trip last year, but the man at Reception said their TV reception was unreliable. The Driver then said we would continue on to Forbes, where we found the Big 4 park was fine.

According to Wiki Camps there are 3 caravan parkes in Forbes.

One is small but people were generally happy.

One did not come highly recommended by most comments.

The third one had good reports except for the sites not being level.

Apparently one of the owner / managers was not that helpfull during the annual Elvis festival. biggrinbiggrin

Wiki camps is generally pretty accurate but as someone said you cannot please all of the people all of the time.no

There is also the show ground for $20 per night.

A good listing for parks is Gary Strattons MyParkList. From that I am able to produce a map of towns around a town. The map for Parkes shows 4 parks, click on the pins for more information. It also has the Fobes parks on it, zoom in to separate the pins.

Gooday,

Try Badgers Caravan Park reports used to give reliable information.

Thank you all. Wow. An excellent response. I had not heard of the suggested sites to research, but will be on to them. Agree with Jonathon re chocks, levellers, etc. Not too keen on that. Okay for free or bush camping but in a caravan park I expect a level or very very near level site. Will follow up all suggestions. Thank you all again.

I stayed at the show grounds in January 2015 to see Elvis, and all his cousins, who were visiting the town
Ann Margaret and some of her cousins were there also

$20 per night, for both power and none power sites

About 50/50 more or less of level and none level sites

I would assume that if you wanted a level site, you would have to go there early

I have no idea what happens when Elvis is not visiting, when I was there, they put on a bus for $15 for the 5 days, so there was no need to move out of your bay to go into town

Hope that this info is helpful
