Stayed at this camp about 12 months ago. Old Jim is a nice old fella and has his receipt book with him at all times to clarify any transaction officially. There is also an honesty box at entrance to the camp spot BUT did not see anything in it whilst there. Problem we noticed was people would take off for the day tripping around to dodge Jim ( and not put anything in the honesty box at all ) and others would come in just before sun went down and take off next morning before Jim turned up. Watched with own 4 eyes ( wear glasses ) these people drive straight past honestly box. We were there for about 4 or 5 days so had plenty of time to watch what was going on around us. Some of the set ups were massive vans with good tugs to pull them. Can't tell me they didn't have any cash or money to pay.
It is a beautiful camp spot with a very small river running through it approx. 10 klms below the Buffalo Dam. Well worth a visit

That's exactly the reason we posted this thread. We were there for 7 nights. We stayed 5 nights in 2014. Same thing happening, flash motor-homes, tugs & vans NO MONEY to pay prominently signposted fees at entrance. DISGUSTING! Jim should call the police & either get them to pay, move on or lock them up for stealing. $15 for a powered site adjacent to the beautiful Buffalo River looking up at Mt Buffalo National Park is a bargain. Lots of wineries to visit. Shady sites, toilets are clean, bins provided, all by volunteers.

Hey there jules, reminds me of a song ...all the " holier than thou" will go to heaven ,you & I & maybe the billeeeeee will enjoy going EVRYWHERE, put the kettle & scones on & I'll sit with you & smell how good the roses are ...till then stay well..cya
Do some people here actually think it's ok to not make these small donations and pay minimal camp fees.using excuses like they can't afford it poor things. That's ridiculous ...
Well, I for one, always pay my way - but I have arrived at a camp, and found it to be a "paid" camp (listed as free), and had to pay in ten and twenty cent pieces, because I forgot to get cash out. But I do know some people do everything with their credit/debit card, and never carry cash, in case they get robbed. These days we carry a small amount of cash for such emergencies.

For anyone interested in staying at this beautiful reserve that you need to PAY TO STAY AT, here's the website. It's definitely NOT A FREE CAMP unless you pretend to have no cash on you. www.nugnugreserve.com.au/

Most of us accept that we should be prepared for unexpected items of expense, and we can normally "scrape" the money together.
What I think is unacceptable is to simply use facilities, knowing there is a charge, and refuse to make that payment somehow. To do this is no different to filling the vehicle with fuel at a service station, and then driving off without paying, or not paying the full amount, simply because you don't have the money or the full amount.
This is not being "holier than thou", this is simply doing what is right and proper.
At times, I do think some see the ability to dodge fee collectors is some form of sport, and see it as a challenge to be able to do it as often as possible. Sort of like the often stated practice (which I haven't seen) of collecting the toilet paper at sites to save on expense. I wonder what the groups response would be if the fee dodgers had been a "different" camping group, like backpackers in whizz bangs, instead of the "normal" tourers?
