Presumably it would be wise to try to keep water, dust etc out of the ends of the 4 pin camera cables when they are not connected. So what do you use to achieve this?
I under stand your concerns. Our van has spring loaded caps to cover both female ends when the van is detached from the tow truck. I never leave our flexie cord attached either.
Our van is parked up in the shed and still over time, moisture will still find its evil way to the terminals x different metals added together = electrolysis = corrosion.
How to slow down this evil. I intend to use Lenotec spray. Lenotec is a natural lambs wool oil. Yes oil will attract dust. Dust can be removed with Methylated sprits / compressed air. Lenotect $12.50 from Repco.
The marine industry users Lanotec. I have used it on our boats engines for 20 years. It will not damage any of the wire plastic coatings.
As yet I have not inspected our covers to see if they have an O ring seal inside the cap proper.
When not in use, if your van is out in the open. cover them with a good plastic bag, plus maybe some duct tape.
You can buy cans of aerosol compressed air these days as well to use on your travels.
Lanotec is wonderful stuff, but keep it away from electrical components as you would be inviting trouble. Contrary to what the label says, its electrical properties are poor, I have always wound up having connection problems when I have used it around connections. There are better spray protectants about.

I use a piece of clear plastic tube, plug one end with silicone with a piece of wire to hook out of the way when not in use. Remove when not needed. Cheers Allen
What I have done and works a treat is use a small rubber cap commonly used for capping the ends of chair legs. They come in all different sizes and I use a larger one to cap the connection for the mains water inlet.
