Inland NSW Trip Advise/Tips

Hi All

Heading on our first trip to Broken Hill and beyond in December from Perth, would like any tips of places to see whilst travelling around inland NSW.

Lightning Ridge has been suggested for the thermal pool... Anyone else got ideas of where to go please?

Recommendation on Good camping spots would be helpful too. Travelling in Fiat campervan, not towing anything, no pets.

Kind Regards

M&D

At that time of year be prepared for very hot conditions. Mungo National Park, Mootawintgi National Park, Kinchela National Park are all around Broken Hill and all worth a visit.

Silverton. Good little caravan park. Watch out for snakes. Best Porterhouse ever at the pub. Magic lookout just out of town. Col P

Just been up that way for a month. Lighting Ridge (thermal pool & pubs in the scrub - went for 3 days, stayed 4), Bourke (Back o Bourke show), Cobar (thought we were going to a lookout - it was an open cut mine), fishing at St George, free-camp at the Nindigully pub, Bingara (free camping), Texas (free camping), Glenlyon Dam, Lake Copeton. We have a great and varied country.

Colin Penrose only said Silverton as the Campground is called Penrose Park . Walking across the creek to the Pub (good meals) is great. Just beware, it's easy to get there in daylight, can be a tad tricky half cut & in the dark getting back. Do the sunset at the Mundi Mundi plains (few kms further west). It's truly magnificent. Also go the reservoir a few kms further again and you will see what silting means and how the water situation is critical in Broken Hill. A day trip out to Copi Hollow and Menindee is worth it. Had several good meals at Maidens Menindee Hotel.

Thank you all appreciate the info, and will certainly get the maps out tomorrow.
Haven't heard of half the places mentioned so will make a note of them all and start planning the trip. Thanks KFT for web link and info on all the places with bore baths (good for the aching bones). LLD sounds like a story behind that visit to the pub.
We have done the coastal lap and up the centre of OZ though missed so much inland.
Anyone been to Tamworth? Is it worth a visit?

Tamworth is just up the road from my place.

Lots of Aussie country music related attractions. City of around 50,000 and has some good shopping, restaurants cafe's etc

Country music festival in January brings in around 55,000 visitors for 10 days

more info here: www.destinationtamworth.com.au/Home/tamworth-visitor-information-centre

hope that helps

Frank
