Here's a heads up for people using phones on the 2G network.
"Australians relying on budget Telstra mobile resellers, including Woolworths Connect and ALDImobile, are at risk of being caught out by Telstra's impending 2G shutdown as the deadline fast approaches.
With less than a month to go before Telstra kills off its 23 year-old 2G mobile network, the telco is stepping up its campaign to upgrade stragglers to 3G/4G-compatible handsets and SIM cards before their 2G phones fall silent on December 1. Optus is shutting down its 2G network next April, with Vodafone to follow in September."
Are those pre-paid companies re-selling Telstra 2G advising their customers when the customer extends their pre-paid period, that 2G is ending? I know you can do pre-paid for up to 12 months, so I'd have thought that anyone renewing since Dec last year would know as winding up old systems usually has a least a 2 year warning.

In most cases all that needs to be done is upgrade the SIM to 3/4G, Free service. Unless your phone or devise is really old it will already be 3/4G compatible. Only the SIM is related to the type of network.
Simply go and take your devise to your provider and make the change.
Just make sure your contacts are saved to phone, not sim card when changing over. it's a pain to redo them. Other than that, yes free and painless. cheers Craig
I managed to purge my contacts many years ago. It was a good thing at the time as many of them were never used. Now with a smartphone, I just have a master list that I maintain on my PC that updates to my phone (calendar, contacts, browser, mail). Just make sure you have a PIN on your smartphone. I've lost one and had one stolen.
