We own 2 vehicles - one is a 2 week old Corolla with a capped log book service of $120 for 3 years or 60K from the selling Toyota dealer.
The other is a DMax which isn't covered by capped servicing (and each service cost varies).
But I have found that I always shop around reputable mechanical workshops for my log book service on the DMax as the Dealers are usually up to 50% dearer (on a minor service, usually about $200 or so). The Dealer service manager will always try to frighten you away from 3rd party workshops, but when you push them as to why the Dealer is better they only fall back on their staff are trained in that particular vehicle.
I always take it to an Isuzu Dealer for a major service though. I am coming up for its 80K one and the quoted price from two Dealers is both a little over $1400. One I haggled with and it will now cost me $1000. The reason this service was so expensive is its supposed to have a hydraulic steering hose replaced. Both the service manager and his workshop manager said they wouldn't bother to replace this $275 item until its due its next major service - they both said it was an overkill on the part of Isuzu (they did inspect the hose before suggesting it not be replaced)
The moral of the story is shop around and with a smile on your face, negotiate a better price - they are just like other retailers - hard up for business

The amazing things you see when nomading Australia
$670 ALL fluids. Diffs/hubbs/transfer/ brakes/steering, etc.
apart from
I supplied own Full Synth Engine oil.
And did Auto service separately.
IE Flush. as well as service.
full fluid ( 20 ltr drum )run through.
Service only changes aroud 5 to 7 ltrs plus filter.
Flush does around 17/18 ltrs and flows ALL clean.
Tip.
MARK every plug and cap with oil based marker. b4 it goes in. Filters,
the lot.
and check 'em all. some b4 you leave.
If not moved. Tell them. and see what they say.
Unless you can find a good bloke.
I have.
he tells me when things wrong or need doing.
and often does them for cost.
in price of service.
Anything he changes, I get in bag, in tray of ute to see.
He's Ex mines Maint (up here). A lot of the contractors got laid off.
and they mostly Tradies, with papers.
Otherwise mines don't let them in the door.
I actually told him to charge more...All of us.
I don't want him to run out of money undercharging.
He's too good.
Just make sure that you take your vehicle back to a franchised dealer until the warranty runs out or keep all receipts from all work done. The electronic updates (OBDII) only come from a franchised dealer and tend to stop happening after a few years anyway. Also, not all recalls come in the mail. Some only go to the dealer network for a look at at the next scheduled service. I've had work done on my vehicles that I never knew needed doing and it was all done under warranty. The were not safety recalls so there was no mail out or posting on the Govt recall website. One surprise was a new set of tyres at 45,000kms. Bridgestone seemed to think that a batch of tyres were wearing out prematurely. I just thought I was driving a bit too hard and about to order a new set.
Just finalised a big issue with my daughters car transmission. The vehicle had a warranty program out on it but the vehicle never made it back to a franchised dealer after the program was issued (prior owner) and before the program was declared closed. The recall program was only mailed to the dealer network. Manufacturers often assume (incorrectly) that if a vehicle doesn't make it for a recall, the problem is not in that vehicle. Long complicated story that could have been prevented. The manufacturer finally went halves in fixing the transmission which is something manufacturers sometimes do.
Keep all your receipts from services no matter where you get them done as when a warranty does run out and you can prove that the fault is a manufacturing fault, you may get lucky. eg. In our case the transmission failed at 80,000kms. The life was deemed to be 160,000kms so the manufacturer / dealer paid half.
