Being relatively new in here I thought I might ask the question. Are there any Beach Detecting freaks like me in amongst you energetic silver tops? If so I thought we might be able to swap some notes & info like detector types, detecting arrears, tools and spades etc. After 25 years of chasing that yellow stuff I have turned my attention to beach and maybe parks and playgrounds etc. Back in the 1980s I used to give Scarborough Beach a go occasionally and most days managed to scrape up enough for the odd lottery ticket. Anyway I wait with baited breath.
Hey Val...........I resemble your silver tops comment.......no, I meant resent..........LOL
Seriously though, there are some web sites for detector folk - not sure if theres one just for beaches and the like though - have you tried to google various terms like, " amateur gold detecting", "gold detecting" etc. Even if you ask the same question on those sites, they may point you in the right direction to find other beach/park silver tops.
Well, I'm off now to dye my hair from grey to brown - again lol

That's a hard one mate however, all detectors have a head phone plugs, and if you hunt around hard enough you can buy head phones with their own volume control. That way you can have the detector on full bore, and also the head phones.
Yes Bruce, and there is some interesting reading in here as well. Also I get a hair cut when the price of wool goes up.
I borrowed a detector for our local beach a few years back, seemed to wreck a good walk. Dug up a couple of coins' got all sandy.
Somehow, though, its loosed a bug in me and I find myself looking at detecting in the badlands and deserts for that life changing nugget.
Youtube has a lot to answer for. Is this just a dream or do many pursue it?
Actually Bagmaker, detecting on the beach can be a lot of fun. Back in the 1970s when I was a gold detecting freak, I used to make the occasional trip down to the beach for a change of activity. I used to go down to Scarborough and Trigg's etc, etc. On one occasion I found 6 live 22 rounds, and on another time I found a Gold Chain with an Opal pendant. So if you want a novel change of activity in you life style, a cheepy metal detector can change everything. Just remember to take the mobile phone with you so, the Misses can ring and tell you when she has finished chopping the wood, and it is safe for you to come home.
Not a very experianced operator, I use a Garrett Ace detector which has an earphone jack but even though I wear hearing aids I dont use them or head phones when using detector at the beach or in parks.
This machine allows you to discriminate on things it will detect especially bottle tops and ring pulls, I have used it on a number of beaches and parks and found a small amount of coins and other assorted options but the best place I have found is around the bouncing pillow in caravan parks, although the most I found was just over $32 which I guess is almost a nights fees.
I purchased mine on ebay for under $200 and it does work well also water proof shaft.
Good luck
