Now as stupid as this may seem, it actually happened. On a building site, a worker was using a Makita cordless drill with a 10 mm drill bit in place to drill some holes. He hesitated for a second to itch his nostril, and instead of using his finger, he stuck the drill bit up there. And without thinking, (I do not think that he had any brains to start with) pulled the trigger, the drill bit drilled a 10 mm hole right up through his sinuses. Well,,, he sued Makita for allowing him to use a machine that could cause grievous bodily harm. And you guessed it, he won the case.
But doesn't it make the law look stupid when an idiot like that can do something totally idiotic, and then claim that Makita was at fault for not making their equipment "nose" proof.
That is just as stupid as the guy in America who put his motor home on cruise control and because it was a straight road, went back to make himself a sandwich and then sued the motor home mob for allowing his vehicle to run off the road into a ditch. He won the case too. "Only in America."

The Cruise Control joke has been doing the rounds for many years and only recently included the bit about suing the manufacturer. Snopes lists it as a "Legend".(Snopes.com is a good source for checking urban myths and legends).
The drill story originally had a photograph, allegedly of the drill victim.
The picture is actually of a bullet wound, and there is no record of anyone actually doing this with a drill.
Sorry to disappoint, but there are some limits to people's stupidity (although sometimes I wonder...).
Cheers
