Yes we came a cropper in the centre of WA, after been a member of the NRMA for 43 years I finally use our comprehensive insurance to make a claim, after our little mishap. On our first adventure with our van.
Not a big cropper by many standards.( Cause of my driving skills )We needed to replace our rear bumper bar and the small taillight. After telling them over the phone what happened. I told what happened and how we did our own outback bush repair job till we got home. It was all sorted in minutes. Was the van damaged? No, thank to be. Cause our extended Aframe with our firewood basket( minor crush) stopped the two 5800kg total, from locking together at 5km ph on a wet claypan road.
But it did buckle our stone stomper bar and tore the mesh some.
Got home today and sitting on the door step a brand new stone stomper made to our original order in January this year.
The car goes in tomorrow to get fixed up and will be all good by the weekend. Plus we have a 65% no claim bonus for life.
Great service indeed Jim - you chose the right mob to insure your vehicles that's for sure!
Sorry Blokes....but after 45 years of insurance with NRMA....they backstabbed me enough that I gave them the ultimatum...FIX IT OR I TAKE 8 POLICIES AND GO ELSWHERE!!! . But they chose to argue the point over about 2 years...so I went. Have heard since that the supervisor ?? has been kicked out ....and every other month I get an apologetic letter saying please come back. ERRR...don't think so..............
There's an old saying, An Insurance Company, or Policy is only as good as it makes out, after a claim !!
We were insured with a Company for many years, covering the House, contents, two cars a caravan and a trailer,
We came home one time to find the House had been broken into and a lot of small items stolen, among this lot was a collection of the a full set of John Wayne Video tapes,
I rang the Insurance Company who after a bit of haggling agreed to replace the tapes, time went by and no tapes turned up, after a month or so I rang the insurance to see what was going on, there reply was, their contractor was having trouble getting replacement tapes as they were rare and hard to find,
the next day I happened to be in Kmart and saw the tapes sitting on the shelf, returning home I immediately rang the Insurance mob and told them where they could get the tapes, their reply.... No can't get them there, the tapes must come through their Contractor who lived on the other side of the Country !!!
Finally all items were replaced that the Contractor could find, about 80% , we received a small Cheque for the rest and a note from the Insurance stating, that if we wanted to remain covered by them.... "All windows would have to be secured with Bars in future " as we were a bad risk, having one claim after 25 years of cover !!!
That Company got dumped the next day, for years afterwards we would get a letter from them asking us why we left them, "HELLO"
