Hi, I,m a new member as of today. Can anyone recommend who to insure my Ford Transit camper with. Apparently not all brokers will insure modified vans. I am currently in U.K and finding it a bit of a headache. I,ve just bought my van in Melbourne.
Welcome to the gang Grandmaonthemove, enjoy here and out in the playground, when you get here.
Try and do a search for Ken Tame I think his name is, he seems to get a good mention on here. You could also do a search for 'Insurance' in the search bar in the blue bar above the list of forum sections, there is 5 headings so just use the 'search' one.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Hi Grandmaonthe move, I have my Transit van insured with NRMA. Not the cheapest, but they are very good. Also have the top roadside assistance with them too.
We have had our Mercedes Sprinter Campervan insured with APIA for 4 years & happy with our cover & monthly premiums. I think you need to be over 55 to insure with them but worth puting on you quote list. Ken Tame seems to be popular also but you need to be a member of the CMCA (excellent value- annual membership of $44 & they post a monthly 110-130 page magazine, provide funding for dump points etc. around Australia- Check out their website- We are members even though we insure elsewhere).
Before deciding on a Company make sure you double check what is covered & not covered by the insurance policies offered
Ken Tame is probably your best option for a modified non brand van.
You will be required to join the CMCA (Campervan and Motorhome Club) which doesn't cost very much and you get a nice glossy magazine every month.
You will need to have your van inspected by one of Ken Tame's approved valuers to agree a valuation. Cost around $100.

Montie, that was why I went with NRMA. No inspection, agreed value. Phone call only. No hassells. I figured the saving on Joining CMCA and the annual membership (joining fee was substantial at the time) would make up any extra in NRMA ins.
