diesel heater

g'day all hate to re hash what has already been discussed, have built 3 bus\ coach motor homes. over a 15 year period have done a lot of short trips over that time but  now have a 21' heritage caravan, feb going to go around the block plan 6 to 9 months did fit a second hand eberspacher to my second  bus worked a treat,  so am going to fit a diesel heater to our caravan, thought I had made my mind up on a wabasco but after being in a mates motorhome with one fitted and it did not feel very efficient at all maybe it was just his one ,sorry to ramble on, my question is I have seen some cheaper brands on ebay as has been mentioned by others in previous post and I have noticed a 5kw or 2kw for similar money when spoke to a supplier they said that a 5kw is for a van over 29 feet and the heat would be to uncomfortable in my size van, but I thought that it would not have to work as hard as a 2kw and could  be left on low does any body have a  5kw and whats your thoughts cheers

Running our 2kw diesel heater on 'low- continuous', instead of the thermostat setting is not working hard, as it is on low, and it heats the van more than adequate at this setting. I would imagine that even on low, a 5kw system would be overkill for your 21 foot van.

Cheers, John.

A 2kw unit will do your van size @Hudson. Cheaper still on Aliexpress. I purchased a 9kw liquid unit for my bus for the price of a 2kw unit priced locally.

My brotherin law fitted the 5kw unit from Pinnacle with two outlets, one points into the ensuite area the other points down the length of his 22 foot Heritage, this heater is magic, I fitted the 2kw unit to my 18 foot van and it is very effective, we camp in a very cold area and love these heaters. The 5kw model wasn't much dearer than the 2kw one but heats his van very nicely, if they are almost the same price I would be fitting the bigger unit, as for overkill try camping in New England in winter, as we do.

thanks for reply that was my thoughts; so unless some one has negative to the 5 kw I think I will go that way unless what aussie Paul said about it being 24 volt is true thanks everybody for your thoughts cheers

Isn't it funny, the wives (partners) saying "I'm not going in that dammed van until you can get it warmer" !!!!

Now its just my thoughts, but is it that the combustion chamber, and the injector are tuned to one ideal setting, i.e. the jet and chamber are a fixed size. In that case there would be one heat setting where the heater performs at its best and most economical running, above and below that its not so efficient.

you can get any output power diesel heater in either 12 or 24 volt, just need to specify which you are running.
