Winner is South Australia, good on them for realistic costs.
Within last 12 months we used our van 52 days out of 365 on NSW rego. If I combine both Tug & Van all rego and insurances that would be $2186, so it cost us $42.00 + fuel per night (forget eats & drinks as that would be as if at home).
Would rather be out 365 days a year that would be $5.99 a night
Yep. That's what being a grey nomad is about for me. Getting off the merry go round as much as possible. Just little bit longer now. Great post by the way.
Just paid my rego Nsw ,thieving scumbag of a state this one $471.00 dollars other states pay far Less.
caravan insurance Cil $710.00 that's good about the same as the other insurers, we all live in the same country so fair enough..
Yep We all live in the same country I wonder if the NSW government think so ,as far as rego is concerned nsw is haveing a mighty big Lick And it's pathetic...
For those who do not have a lot of Internet download capacity If I have interpreted the article correctly a summery could be

Like so many articles in these magazines, you are never sure of what research they have done and on the figures quoted.
When making comparisons on anything you MUST compare apples with apples.
I just did a quick search and found that the fees quoted for SA and ACT are correct, but the SA figures do not include Compulsory Third Party.
The actual cost comparison for a years reg/ins on the combo in SA is $1060.
Makes you wonder what other figures are accurate.
It was a hard article to follow, and I wondered myself if they had got all the figures correct, and why they did not just tabulate the numbers, for an easy comparison
Quote from the article Tasmania is the only state where you have to pay a third party personal insurance on a caravan It is covered by the tow vehicle in every other state/territory It is not excessive though, just $62 a year for all caravans Unquote
Another quote from the article SA is the state to live in if you want cheap vehicle and van rego fees. SA charges no stamp duty for caravans and only $93 for rego per year. The Cruiser and can combination is a downright bargain at just $450 a year Unquote
Tongue in cheek I can see an opening for an enterprising company to start building a bamboo frame, hessian wall caravan in WA. (Rego $5.12 per 100 Kg of Tare) They could also sell oversize bicycle tyre and tubes, as a sideline
I can visualise some of the talk at happy hour What! You paid $15.36 rego for your caravan. They saw you coming mate. I only paid $10.24
Iam probably being a dummy? But I can't see what combo has to do with it my rego The fee was simply 471.00 on the road nothing more nothing more to pay !!! that's it completely for the van,it's a new van so no inspection fee.
cmprehensive insurance is a different thing.
the tug rego has nothing to do with the caravan.
I can't understand what's combo got too do with the van rego ....
The article was making comparisons about the rego for a 3,000 Kg, 24 foot Caravan and a LandCruiser 200, in each state, which they had called the Combo
