DE-CLUTTER TO LEAVE THE BIG SMOKE

Have decided to take the plunge.  De-cluttering big time.  Just took a load to the op shop.  Selling what I can on ebay, eventually the house furnishings.  When all this has gone, house on market.  Move to a caravan park, buy a 4x4 motorhome, sell car & trailer, put money in the bank (it's probably not even safe there) and not look back.  Will be a long time before I buy a home again - if I buy, it will be cheap and paid for outright.  You only live once.  Getting off the merry-go-round.  Can't take anything with you when you go except the kindness shown to your fellow human beings.  Being brave for adventurous sake.

I did all that in late 2014 and don't regret it one bit. Love the freedom and the people out here in the playground.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

BRave move, Chells! I love travelling but not sure that I could take that step yet. Decluttering is always liberating & we all hang onto too many things. On the road, every day will be a new one and I admire you being brave enough to make that choice. Best wishes!

Thank you. You never know when you number is up. I'd rather trust that than what is happening world wide. Things are only going to get worse. Rather be stuck out bush when there is either no power, water, petrol, electricity, etc. Should just one of these things go. The city would be bedlam. Scary times.

I am doing the same thing, the trouble is what do you do with the collectable stuff. Plates, bottles of port (please do not say drink them, they are collectables) and all that sort of crap, crystal and stuff that has been collected over the years.

Put the money with an investment mob - only one to make anything off your money if you put it in the bank is the bank!!

Collectables - I was a "collector" - old Tupperware, engraved glasses(I "rescued" them), you name it, I probably had it!  When the decision was made to go travelling - I had a garage sale, sold what I could, gave stuff away, my daughter took some of the collectables (some pretty rare) - and the rest went to the op shop (where a lot had come from anyway).  I gave most of my furniture to my grandsons mates, who were all moving out of home to share with mates - tables, chairs, crockery, cutlery, pots, pans - they took it all.

My reasoning was that I was starting a new life, why take the past life with me.

I still have some stuff at my daughters, but that is mostly family stuff, photos, etc., which she is slowly sorting into family groups.

Join up with some of the solo groups - there are a lot of them around now - but don't limit yourself to only travelling with them, get out on your own, meet some new people, couples or solos.  Halfpint, who has posted above, is a member of a couple of groups, have a chat with her she is a lovely lady.

Hey.

Enjoy it. there's nothing better than solo travelling. On land or sea.

ALl the rest is such. Crap.
Keep personal stuff and unload the rest.

Just get on road and enjoy.
BUT...
Keep enough in your back pocket to buy a little place somewhere. Just in case.
Not all can travel till they die.
some later find."It's time I settled again".
Some just get too tired and a little crook, not able to anymore.

There'll be a lot of current "grey nomads' in a few yrs thinking.

"What do I do now", All sold up All gone. just a second hand van.
whoops.

Cover your arse girl. for "Ron".

He DOES catch up with all of us at some time. Be prepared.
And meanwhile.
Have a ball.......

Donate them to Salvo's, but take them in personally otherwise they will never make the front door.

I always say, "if you hav'nt used it or touched it for a year" it's no good to you.

It's only stuff, have a big gigantic garage sale - make some money towards your lifestyle.

My only question is this, and it is aimed at myself as well.

Why do we collect the so called collectables? As an investment, because we like them, because someone said it would be a good idea. Why?

I don't know, but I wonder if someone else can tell me the answer.

Certainly I see a certain irony Lancelot in on one hand calling them collectables assigning them some sort of special value, and on the other describing them as "all that sort of crap"

Hi, I did the same, try garage sale, Gumtree, eBay, and give heaps to your family and friends. When all else fails, cash converters, better to get 5 bucks, than zilch. Six months down the track and I'm still removing junk!!!, but I'm happy and free. Enjoy your journey.

I tend to agree with most on here .. Our priorities in life can and do change. After some 7 years full-time on the road, I'm now semi-static on my block while establishing a Vanport/shed structure which I will use as my base and hopefully to continue travelling for quite some more years ..

As we are dependant upon local Council Regulations, our choices can be rather limiting. I'm now resident in the boondocks of North-Western NSW and have a bit more freedom than someone living in a concrete jungle. I use the support of local services, although it may be slower (my pace), but the tradies here know what they can and cannot do under council guidelines. Now camped on my block with power and water, I've also setup a waterless toilet system so that I can be comfortable until I get my septic system installed along with my Vanport/shed with rainwater tank etc ..

back to decluttering .. I was lucky there ! I have two sons and one wanted the house furniture and the other wanted the contents of my workshop; the house sold the second time I tried, to the 2nd couple walking through on the day. Things happen, good or bad, when they will and it worked for me.

A positive attitude and good friends are the secret .. Like most of us, I too have ailments that are a concern but they just become part of my way of life, and doesn't diminish my lust for life.

If you really can't live without your crystal. Then take it with you and enjoy using it everyday. Perhaps you could host a high tea happy hour lol. I'm sure wine tastes better in crystal compared to my plastic cups!!!!! Lol lol
