Fresh Veg freezing

Hey all, well after our last weekend trip away (this weekend just gone) we discovered our fresh veg was freezing. The fridge was on gas, and we turned the fridge right down to 2. Any tips on how we could keep our fresh stuff from freezing would be greatly appreciated

I don't know a lot about fridges with gas, ours is 12volt, however, if you keep the veg in the warmest part of the fridge, in our case the bottom of it, that may help.

From time to time, things we put in the top of the fridge have stared to freeze.

Turn fridge up during the day and turn down at night

My fridge is 12v but in the past I have had a problem with veges freezing if kept in the top.
I solved it by keeping them in the bottom of the fridge and covering with a double layer of kitchen paper.

Hope it works for you. smile

I'm expert at freezing lettuce!

My solution is to place it in plastic containers with a piece of kitchen paper to absorb moisture & a piece of Alfoil across the top.  Then as others have suggested, store it in the bottom of the fridge.  My fridge has a piece of clear plastic on top of the lower shelf above the vege store to keep it less cold I think.  I use the 3 way fridge as the 'ready use' store & any bulk supply is in the Engel with its controlled temperature.

In any case, with summer just around the corner, your problem will soon disappear.

ps.  Given that I don't drink as much these days there is lots of space in the Engel, so I have three large neat fitting plastic containers for storing veges there.

Thanks guys. I have read on other forums the same, so here goes for the next run. I was thinking of becoming a complete carnivore, and get my plant food in hops and barley, and grapes

you might consider a little fan INSIDE the fridge. Some folks have a small computer type fan (40mm diameter seems common) running all the time to circulate the air, preventing stratification. Google is your freind.

Maybe turn your fridge up to 4. 2 sounds a bit low.
Also put your veges where the warmer spot in the fridge would be.

I have that trouble with my home fridge which is already turned down as much as possible. I've cut a rectangle of that silver insulation stuff (normally put in roofs) and that seems to solve the problem. It should work in your van fridge too.

Turn  fridge to number 1, not as cold as 2.

Cheers John.

Those 3 ways work on principal of Freezer box supplying the cold
and it then drops through rest of fridge.

As said. Over the yrs in different forums.
IF you have to have a 3 way. the comp fans seem to be the best reaction to it.
Tap in a line from 12v element to interior and just leave it on.

I use a std 90ltr? 3 way now in van (came with cheap van) for daily usage
Just as fridge.
and my 80ltr Waeco in rear of ute for serious containment.)(Fridge/Freeezer model)

285w of panels along with 40a AC Charger and Genny keeps them fine and Air cond running.

Hey.
I have 2 x 40w panels on Carport for boat battery's.
One 35yrs one older.
Yesterday I Ram multi over them 2.8a. Hmm.
One has gone to god. Finally.

As long as you buy the GOOD, not cheap panels You WILL get longevity.
The cheap units are a toss up. Some do. Some don't.

These are BP. along with another Kyocerra and Solarex from yach days.
the youngest is 16 yrs old now.

A 20w Solarex I bought originally back in mid '70's when that was biggest they made.
is still working on mates boat battery storage Regulator. 1 of original 6.

Just make sure you buy a proven Regulator too. My Trace, 25a.  PRE chips etc

Original Pot's. is still working too, on that system Linked to the Wind Genny too.

Extra juice supplied goes into water heating element or out through Dumps.

His camp out in bush FNQ.

Whoops sorry for going off line.

Forgetting myself.

Fan in fridge most efficient cure
