Travelling to Tassie soon but would like your opinions on the better route to Moree. Should I go via Toowoomba and the Newell Highway or take the New England Highway. Thanks in advance.
I recently returned from NSW Wagga Wagga to Brisbane via the Newel Highway. I prefer that route if I want to get from A to B more quickly. I did have a problem with the flooding though. It would pay to check with the NSW Transport Dept. re the condition of that route. Closures/Flooding diversions etc. With recent weather it would be a good idea. I like the New England for the scenery better than the Newel but road conditions etc would make that choice for you.

head straight out of Brisbane via Toowoomba, Goondiwindi to Moree, quickest & much better as road is wider & more overtaking room in case all the idiots are out on the same day. Via Warwick is not my preferred choice. Safe travels
New England Hwy is much prettier (more variety than the Newell), but it is also much hillier. Also, you tend to die of radiation exposure to the speed cameras on the New England. Not that they aren't on the Newell either, but I think there are fewer. I think there will be more trucks on the Newell, but they move quite well so they should not be aproblem to you. It all depends on your vehicle - it you are towing, the Newell is a much easier trek than the New England. You could go down eitherof these roads and then come back via the Pacific Hwy. The Pacific is a coninuous series of roadworks from Coffs Harbour North, intermixed withg some old and some fabulous new roads. That trip is pretty, but tiresome.
