Road Condition - Killarney to Ballina via Woodenbong and Casino/Lismore on B91

Hi All,

Would appreciate any info on the above road. Looking at leaving Killarney and heading to the coast on B91 via Woodenbong, Kyogle and then either Casino or Lismore. I will be towing an 18' van. Intend doing this trip in about a month or so.

Thanks in anticipationbiggrin

Cheers

Hurls

Travelled a few times from Woodenbong to Casino a good sealed road and an enjoyable trip but never from Killarney, looking on the map it looks to be a very challenging trip with lots of winding roads, we have always come from Beaudesert to Woodenbong on the Mount Lindsay Highway, the road on the NSW side is much better than the QLD side but quite doable.
Good low priced camping at Woodenbong with all facilities
Cheers
David

If ever I am not sure on a road condition I always go to the local Police Station or you could ring the Killarney Police and ask their advice they always seem to be happy to give advice .

Dunno wot its like now ....but a few years ago when we had our earlier model Patrol....went that way in from Tenterfield ....and it would have been the roughest bumpiest sealed road I have ever been on ...then or since ...and I live in Orange which has the bumpiest street surfaces you will see anywhere. We pulled up for a pitstop somewhere along it ....and I could feel the heat from the front shockies 50mil away from them.

But it may be better now????

Cheers  Keith

Hi Hurls, We travelled that road in May going the other way. Killarney to Legume is OK. Legume to Woodenbong is windy but OK. Just be aware when coming to a corner and keep to the left just in case of oncoming traffic. Great camp in Woodenbong. Lovely fruit and vegies stand on LHS just out of Woodenbong heading to Kyogle and good camp site at Kyogle S'grounds. Have fun.

Tis a "good" road . With a few more bends than most , but the scenery is better than most.

Not the greatest sealed surface . But , if ya going a bit slower , you see the scenery better.

I do it regularly , as well as Boonah to Rathdowney & Mt Lindesay , Kyogle & Casino.

I PREFER That way to th 3/4 lane racetrack . But th wurst thing about That racetrack.

Noy everybody is on the same page.

1..  Legume to Woodenbong was the worst I have struck it. I travelled it last week. If you value your van then it will take in excess of an hour. I stopped in Woodenbong fora cuppa and talked to the locals, most of them use the track to get to the west, they all said they are resigned to taking an hour for that stretch as it is much quicker at the slow pace than going any other way.

2..  Had a look at the show ground and decided it was worth the extra $5 per night to stay at the caravan park. They are on either side of the railway line so there is not much difference in the train noise.
