Caravan Insurance

We will be taking delivery of our first van from the dealer in October does anyone have any recommendations on insurance companies to go with. We were thinking CIL but a couple of friends have suggested alternatives such as APIA and another one that maybe a lot cheaper. I have had a quote from CIL for around $1200 which includes full replacement for the first 2 years and returning the van back to a home base if for some reason I was incapacitated and unable to drive. They included a 10% discount because the van will have the Dexter anti sway system fitted and will also refund a further $70 when I send them a receipt for successfully completing my towing course.  Not that worried about the price because I think that the CIL quote is probably pretty reasonable I'm more concerned about the response that people have gotten when making claims especially with CIL. (hopefully we never have to).

Well.

I had Western QBE for 25yrs.
Last 16 or so have been with RACQ.
Made 2 claims. Incl last Cyclone through here.
Instant response and they fixed without giving me a sight of the bill
Assessor actually came through house and found $8k damage more than we noted..

Check on Maybe caravaners forum.
They have a lot more doing it and insuring.

I'd go for one that's proven "non argumentative" than lower price.

Have fun.
And welcome to the "different" lifestyle.

We went with Youi after years with QBE & RAC .... easy to see why they are the fastest growing insurer

DO they pay out?.

Incidently.

We have 50yr RACQ.

Everything insured. incl fishing. Jewelry.

NONE are better that we found, combined,

and I normally check choices every 2 yrs or so.

Not enough to warrant a change anyway.

We KNOW RACQ don't quibble and come to you.

have been with CIL for a few years now. Got a quote from APIA for the van but they would not cover flood damage then last year felt CIL had got a bit expensive given the value of the van had decreased. So got a quote from someone else then went back to CIL asking them to review their price which they did and dropped it by $90

I have always found APIA the most expensive of the lot for any insurance, currently and last 5 years have used Ken Tame with CMCA for our truck and 5th wheeler, way cheaper and better cover than the rest, and yes I know some dislike the CMCA but the benefits far out weigh that IMO.

Recently insured another car and found SGIO were by far the cheapest for that, but my motorbike is with Youi, their low usage policy is great for that.

Shop around, do the figures then choose.

Lost my awning during a storm. CIL paid out no questions no issues. I have found them a bit expensive, however when push came to shove they paid out. Incidentally they answer their phones quickly and have really nice understanding people to deal with. This is of course only my opinion.

We are insured with CIL and this year we had to claim when a tradie backed into our van.
They are great to deal with had our claim approved within hours of there preferred repairer submitting the quote.

Work was completed to a high standard.

Very happy with CIL

I quoted around, CIL & Apia and Elders Moora W.A. Elders Moora where just under $300 cheaper for a comprehensive cover. they also have the ability to settle claims up to $50k with out getting an assessor. $375 for $44k sum insured.
call David on 0427778377 is you are interested.

As usual thanks everyone for all this info. especially the experience that you gained when dealing with them. I still have a month or so to look further into the options that you have now given me.

We chose CIL, mainly because of the extra cover it gave to get us and the van back home if needed. We had to make 1 claim when our awning and part of the siding was damaged. They were excellent to deal with, they accepted the one quote from a repairer and authorised the repair immediately.
