Just been to the Blackwater Workers Club for Father's Day lunch with some friends who live here. Nice meal, good club, friendly, good food and great company.
Nice to see so many families out to lunch together, the club had music, and a congenial atmosphere. Recommend if you are in the area.

I hope everybody enjoyed fathers day I did, with some of my family and phone calls from the rest out of town. My daughter does wood burning and did a piece of wood with my old FJ Holden from my earlier speedway days. I wish now I still had it in the same condition it was in before I stripped it for racing.
A little late as I had no time to get onto the internet yesterday!
Went shopping at Aldi on Saturday and we got a roof rack basket and car awning. The spacing of my roof rails was the same as the width of the basket so none of the fittings would work (I don't have cross rails). Ended up making my own fittings which work well. We wanted the awning to be able to be fitted on either side quickly. As it (just) fits inside the ute canopy we did not want to make it a permanent fit so I had to devise fittings for that as well - essentially three large hooks fitted evenly along the length of the awning rail so it will clip over the roof basket top rail. Finally over to the Mother in Laws for tea and just as I got home the phone went and it was my mum in England and another 2 hour chat.
After that just bu**ered so went to bed. Just need to paint all of the fittings to match the basket/rails and will be done. Love the fact that I have a metalworking workshop at home (I'm also a mode engineer).
If folks are interested I could always take some photos

Here you go then. The u bolts are M6 all thread with Aluminium covers, with a 3mm Aluminium pressure plate and nyloks. All of the fittings provided assumed you had cross bars, but the basket just fitted onto the rails.
There are three deep hooks on the awning - the centre one set a little higher than the end ones to offset somewhat the downward direction of the roof basket. To position the awning the middle hook goes near the front of the basket and the required back hook near the back of the basket. Again the original fittings assumed that the spacers between the basket bottom and top were solid plate and could be drilled through, whereas on this basket they are hollow tube with a bolt through and cannot be drilled through. By having three hooks and using two to fit it can be hung on either side. The awning is stored in the ute canopy when not being used. I just need to add either some pipe insulation to the hooks or a split plastic pipe over the top rail to stop scratching and also paint the U bolts black to match the basket.
