Yes it would be polite to at least acknowledge the info provided even if you don't act on it

I have noticed that, unless you purposely 'subscribe', you don't get notified of any further posts. Maybe the OP has forgotten they've posted... some of us are getting old and forgetful ya know. biggrin

Agree 100%.

Just a tiny bit off topic.....I also notice a lot of posters say they are in or going to or say something about a town or place but don't say what state or where it might be near. Not everyone knows where adc might be. So just add north of xyz or central NSW, etc etc. I try and say, for example, I am at Greens Lake 'north central VIC'. Just gives the reader a bit of an idea where abc might be.

OH! I'm not at Greens Lake by the way. Still in Townsville, north east QLD :).

I also find it really annoying, they want information and expect you to do the home work. A thankyou at the end of the thread is all it takes. As for the "Thankyou in advance", this I think is even worse, and I don't even spend any energy on that thread.

It's about time that they moved Greens Lake to Qld. so I could easily visit.

That would be very handy indeed Cupie. It would save 6000km return trips.

Then there's times you give options and it ends up being debate . Why ask then argue the options ?? Lol Typical text tho .

Sometimes a simple question is asked and most of the answers are off topic, then invariably someone will have a go at someone else, then it becomes a personal bun fight. Maybe we frighten them off.

Maybe if the board listed all the topics that have been replied to, first in each sub forum in bold black rather than having to scroll back pages within the sub forum to see if someone has replied to a topic then the OP may be more aware of the ongoing conversation.

Subscribing does work, but to me anyway, it is just another window that I have to open....it is quite often just as easy to open the subforum then the topic then hunt through the pages until you find the topic that you are interested in.
I still work and generally only check emails of a morning.

Other forums (not caravan related) I participate in have an "active topic" or a "view new" button which when selected brings all the topics that are being replied within in order to the top and in bold print.
This results in the situation that if a topic is replied to a week or a month after it was last active, it is brought back to the top of the active list for all to see and contribute if necessary.

Of course there may be other reasons why the OP may never reply again.
A subject that is dragged off topic comes to mind which in turn generally, ends up in a big argument session usually revolving around a pi$$ing contest.
Not only does the OP ignore the topic but so do many others.

agree about acknowledging (thanks) replies to a post asking for help or info. It is bad manners just to let others spend the time (and their data) replying and then nothing back.

I'm also with Dougwe about being a little more specific about inquiries about various places - "Falls Creek" may make sense to them, but it could be on the dark side of the moon for the rest of others who haven't been to Falls Creek.

And then you get the others that don't do some basic research on a place or especially a vehicle or appliance. Dr Google is always my first port of call for this stuff and then I will phone a couple of retailers. If I'm still unsure, then I post here

Unfortunately when a new member asks a question on the forum, no one knows if that person will or will not return.
On the other hand to balance everything out, the answer/idea, which was put forward, may have been useful to other members/lurkers

Perhaps new members lose track of their posts, and do not realise of one easy way to find their question/s

Click on their name, under Logged In As
Click on Topic Started,
Click on the topic which has their question

Hope I have not been trying to teach my Granddad new tricks

Hope that this is not off topic, but one poster brought this up, and I can assure everyone, that no disrespect is intended or was received

I sometimes write "Thanking you in advance" on this forum
I was under the impression that by writing those four words, I was thanking any person who knew the answer I was seeking, to come forward and supply that answer

Even though it is annoying and I too get a little annoyed but one reason a poster might not come back to acknowledge replies is that in the 'General' section for one, moves very quickly because some people just post anything in there, even nothing to do with what this forum is actually about. Many posts should clearly be in a different section but just get put in 'General'. Things like news items that should really go in 'I Digress' and asking about Solar Panels etc, should clearly go in the Techie' section under the 'Solar Sticky'. One just recently was about Aldi Specials, IMO is more suited to 'I Digress'. Another one is putting an article or similar about fires in 'General'. There is actually a 'Stiky. up the top of 'General' for fire update etc. I think you get my point.

All of this is my thoughts as a active and long time user of this great forum.

Thanks for that guide Tony Bev. As a newb I was not aware that you could find your topics and posts that way...I guess I was expecting too much.biggrin

I find that I have started two topics since I became a member on here and the results have been very helpful.

I must now jump back onto those topics and do a final reply and I will as soon as I finish fitting my heater.

Some of the other forums I'm on have a 'thanks' button. This is used to show appreciation. No, its not Facebook, I don't use that. But, it's a great idea.

The posts I think people should reply to are the technical ones ,where there replies could be helpfull to others in solving problems that they might face in the future.

if people have helped you solve a problem the least you can do is show some gratitude And others will know that the advice given was correct...

I too have written "thanks in advance" here & elsewhere. I had absolutely no idea that anyone would find it offensive!

That is the 1st time I've known anyone to object to it in over 20 years of using internet forums.

(insert confused expression!)
