hi guys n gals .. kev n rose here ..new to this but travelling oz early next year.. 2012 patrol and 24' billabong... need some advice .. any suggestions on how to SAFELY improve engine performance and fuel economy?? I have a 3 litre common rail turbo diesel.. 70.000 clicks ..bought it new.. at the moment only getting average 8 k's to the litre mt..about 4n half k' to the litre towing ... is it safe to chip and put bigger pipe on ?? or any other suggestions .. love your feed back ..cheers kev
Kev, We drive a 2014 Patrol common rail turbo manual - Averaging 11k/l bobtail, 6.5k/l 3 tonne van. Note we tend to travel below max speed limits (averaging 90/95kph) only using 5th gear on long downhills or flat desert country. Once you start to travel above 85/90 fuel usage increases dramatically.

Answers to your questions, Yes have a 3 inch exhaust fitted ,and better than most a Stienbauer module change air cleaner regularly and a shot of injecter cleaner helps. Block the egr with the 3lt you need to then to to have it on the dyno to reset the turbo sounds a lot but will improve fuel 9-10 and 5-6towing. We towed in 4th and 5th on down hill runs .but as others have said push over 90k and use more fuel . Also have a snorkel fitted.what you are getting now is worse than my 200 series.the info I gave you was from my patrol now my daughter has it.
