As in most cases it is the opinion of the testers of any vehicle IMO. I am a proud owner of a 2014 Holden Auto twin cab ute with a canopy fitted and it does everything I want as a tow vehicle and recreation vehicle. Yes some of the additions I have added improved it but I don't think there is a vehicle on the market that something hasn't been added by the owner. Mine also goes faster cos it's red. smile

I believe all of the current model utes and different flavours are very close in what we as drivers want in a vehicle for their purpose.

I love my Colorado, the bloke across the road has a Hi Lux and loves that, the bloke next door has a Great Wall and loves that, 4 doors down has a BT50 and SHE loves that. I just checked out in the street where I am set up and there are 10, yes 10 of these types of utes out there and I bet each and every one of the owners love theirs.

Just like how we travel around the playground, Caravan, motorhome, tent etc etc is a personal choice and opinion so I believe is what we drive.

IMO biggrin

Keep Safe on the roads.

We had a 2011 Ranger until it got hit by lightning early last year. We could have bought any one of the current crop of utes but opted for a run-out model Nissan Navara D22. Old school, proven reliable over many years & more truck like than the '' soft car like'' utes now in vogue. The suspension is harsh & the motor rather noisy & agricultural. They have a huge following as an iconic vehicle with the 4x4 fraternity. Plenty of low down grunt in the rough stuff when we're in the bush doing wildlife photography. Tows our 1600kg when fully loaded caravan easily, rated to tow 2800kgs. Only washed it twice from new (18 months old), never polished it. We have a canopy, steel bull-bar & UHF radio fitted. Like Doug has said it's entirely personal choice.

Gday all

Aaahh the old chestnut, love a good discussion on cars/utes. I will only agree with Dougwe this once lol, utes/cars are a personal choice, I wouldnt touch a hold on with a barge pole as some wouldnt touch Ford etc.

I have a 2012 Ranger XL dual cab turbo diesel, it does the job..

Be safe all

I have had my 1992 Ford Maverick TD42 for near 20 years now and over that time has been fitted out for whatever outdoor activity we are doing at the time. Now it is our tug for the caravan reduced to a touring car and hopefully will be for another 20+ years to come

I have looked at new vehicles now and then but just can't part with what I have become to know and as it is kept in the best of condition and service and gets whatever it needs to keep it going.

Hi Vince,

I had a 1992 Maverick TD42 manual seven seater as well...rue the day I sold it to a work mate. Had a lot of cars over the years and it would be one of my top two or three in terms of favouritism.
They simply do not make them like that anymore.
Still wish I had it.

Cheers AL

Yes Al I don't want to sell it then be saying that, so it's a keeper for as long as it keeps doing the job.

They are built strong and although not the quickest off the blocks they will go all day everyday.

Cheers

Vince.

According to this Saturdays Melbourne Age Drive supplement the current model Colorado is to be upgraded to the vehicle it ''should have been on release'' very soon followed by a new model next year. All this type of thing is just personal opinion & generally means nothing much at all in the ''real world''.

The best vehicle on the road is the one you currently own, unless it gives you trouble - then it's the worst!

I reckon that just about sums it all up.

I bought my 1st dual cab in 1982, a shiny new Datsun 1720. Gee they came in some awful colours lol!

I've owned Utes ever since, including two D22 Navaras in the last 6 years, I like them, they're basic, but very reliable. They hadn't changed much from that 1720 I bought 34 years ago, the interior is almost identical!

But since dual cabs became the car of choice for so many people to tow caravans with, they have evolved very quickly! My current 2013 D22 bears no resemblance to the new NP300 Navara.

I personally think that any of the current crop of 4x4 utes are all equally very good cars. But for me at least, the price is way too high for a Ute. I could buy a new Pajero, or GU Patrol for the money they're asking for some of them, which is probably what I'll end up doing next.
