Warranty

We are looking to buy a motorhome and was wondering about warranty when buying,if we need to use it interstate do we need to go back to the place of buying say another state or are we covered around Australia.I am guessing we will need to read the contract? Thanks in advance.Robbie

The mainstream manufacturers ala Avida, Jayco, Sunliner etc., have an Australia wide warranty system through their dealer network.
They also have nominated authorised repairers nationally to carry out warranty rectifications.

Hi Robby

Like Montie has said most dealers have a system australia wide. I would ask about the towing if needed to a dealer and other things that may come up. But most dealers have something.

Hi Robbie,

Yes we have warranty too with Jayco. But wait till the sh.... T hits the fan. We waited so long to speak to the boss at customer service in Victoria we had to call back and ask to speak to the 2nd incharge. As Peter' mesage was, he would take calls in line of merit, and would try to get back to us today.

We were stranded in Brokenhill and the dealer their told us they could not see us till 9th of August. We ended up coughing up or wait. Go figure.

We are still waiting for a call or text back from Jayco. Its chronic out there.

its the 2nd of August now and we are in WA.cry

Montie is right - most of the major manufacturers have a dealer and repairer network in most cities and large towns in most of the country.

Remember the Dealer only looks after the warranty for the first 12 months.

After that the "implied" warranty is looked after by the manufacturer. The implied warranty is covered by various consumer laws and enforced by the ACCC and the State govt consumer agencies. For most things that go faulty on an RV, the ACCC say that the warranty is for 3-5 years depending on the fault. Don't let the Dealer or manufacturer fob you off for a warranty issue. Phone either the ACCC or the consumer agency in your state for advice and probable enforcement of the warranty

Some good advice , take it on some short trips and try everything before you go , get the bugs out of it. Nothing worse than being out there in the wild blue yonder trying to contact someone to fix something , or having to come home. Ours went back 14 times and is in there at the moment 15 mths old but they made us wait 2 months before they could fit us in , hopefully this is the last time , yes they have fixed everything but caused a lot of grief , luckily we are not taking off till the end of the year. Agree with Jim when the proverbial hits the fan they seem to go missing , eventually it gets done and yes it is covered by warranty but at their leisure. Would I buy new again , never , only because you don't get to inspect it before you hand over the money , then they have you by the short and curly's , and that my friends is my soapbox for today, Caveat Emptor.
cheers
mick
