G'day Maccabee, the above is a fantastic free resource site covering every question concerning Prospecting in W.A.....your rights and requirements....
It's run by 2 Successful Prospectors who also conduct training on all facets including metal detecting, Permits, Section 40E Permit System, and Prospecting, Mining on Pastoral Leases, Miners Rights etc..
Click on the various headings and you will gleen a wealth of info relating to your query.

In W.A. 'The Department of Mines & Petroleum =DMP. is your official resource..they have comprehensive brochures covering all facets and regulations as well.....first thing is you need a 'once only' W.A. Miners Right $25..which can be obtained at any Mining Registrar's Office.. they have a leaflet 'Seven Golden Rules for Prospecting' covering the W.A. TENGRAPH System.......google' DMP Kalgoorlie' and they would be happy to organize your Miners Right and send you all the info you need for a successful and LEGAL gold search/prospect......that's how I started out....

Get a good GPS as the penaltys for being found where you shouldn't be are massive including confiscation of equipment/vehicle etc...not to mention what we hear happens to transgressors/vehicles at the hands of the Lease Holders/Pastoralists etc..not knowing where you are is not accepted as any form of excuse...same old story a few maggots among prospectors ruin it for everyone else...

Hope this helps....its fun and you get plenty of exercise even if you don't find much of the 'Yella Stuff'.....might see you out there...Hoo Roo
