Hi. I would like to install a Diesel a Heater in my Mercedes Sprinter and would like to know where others have have put theres, in what part of the Van please. Can they fit behind or under the Passengers seat ? Do they need ventilation ? Where is best suited ? Thanks in advance.
I installed one in a Coromal Caravan under one of the corner seat. The heaters aren't large, but do require an inlet and outlet inside the area as well as a large hole cut into the floor to have an inlet and exhaust as well as the diesel pipe and electrics. I positioned the internal inlet pipe near the van door so that can suck air from the vent in the door. I also put the tank on the back bumper - they don't use much diesel and are very effective.

We want to install a diesel heater into a Jayco Journey Outback. Understanding of the inlet and outlet that are needed. We have a L shaped lounge, if we put it there it will blow to the fridge opposite. The kitchen is at the rear of the van as is the door, between the kitchen and lounge. Ideally it would seem good to have the air going down towards the bed. The bed is at the front of the van. Any advice on where to install? What suggestion for brand?
From what I understand and don't quote me the Chinese Copyright laws are a bit Iffy.
A huge amount of our top branded goods are made in China and some designs get knocked off.
Re diesel Heaters Eberspacher I think the name is have been designing truck heaters for many years. The heaters on this site seem to be a direct knock off at a much much cheaper price. I like the one particular model that you can switch on with a mobile phone so the vehicle is nice and warm when you get back.
If you use the search function there have been a few posts and some with photos of their installations. I think from memory one brand was Planar available in Australia.
I believe one of the main concerns with the installation is the hot exhaust must not be below an opening window so the gasses do not rise into an open window and gas you.
I should point out that the heater on this link is 24 Volt and only 2KW. If you search for diesel heaters on the site it comes up with 12 volt and bigger KW versions.

I installed the Planer heater under the L lounge in the corner of our Coromal Element 542. The kit came with ducting, but I purchased another length which allowed me to have the outlet further along the longer seat, but it does blow toward the kitchen cupboard on the other side of the van. We don't find this a problem as it warms the whole van. The inlet is at the end of the long seat and is near the door.

We made a decision to install our diesel heater under the bed rather than under the dining seating area. Good move, as we have since taken out the L shape dining area and table and we are replacing with fold out table cabinets and 2 recliner / 360 degrees swivel chairs. Would have been a real issue if we had not installed the heater under the bed.
I do win one now and again. But more and more people will be installing heaters especially for bush camping.

Mine is installed under the bed to one side with inlet vent to side of bed in front of bedside cupboard an single outlet at the end of bed blowing warm air throughout the length of the van. Works very effectively

I felt the corner area of the L seat was very seldom used as difficult to get into, also I had a large inverter and 2 batteries under the bed so wanted to leave the remaining area for storage.

Bandm, you can get an adjustable vent, and direct the hot air where you want to.

Hi Chucker, I realise you are asking about placement in a Sprinter, but just for your interest I have come across a few people of late who have the above pictured vents in caravans that do not like them. These were all people who have them at the foot end of the bed.
Their gripe was that if the vent was pointed left or right, the hot air refused to go down the length of the van. Then when aimed down, the floor in front of the vent got incredibly hot, and when pointed up, it blew up under the overhang of the bed and quilt etc, and or not warming the lower half of the van so good.
Myself, I have a vent that allows the hot air to come straight out and it blows down the length of the van perfectly.
Good luck,
Cheers, John.

Hi bandm, my van now has a Planer from Pinnacle with the new digital controller. Heater works great, best investment ever.
Cheers, John
