I am usually the last to know but going past Telstra today I checked on wifi plans.
I have been paying $105 a month for 15 gig, you can now get 25 gig for the same price and if you have your own modem it can be a casual plan.
I know lots will raise their eyebrows at 25 gig, we are not happy to pay it, but prepared to do it. I am a pretty big internet user and we Skype quite a lot
So that device - modem - is the same as my one which I use for prepaid data - cost me $129 to buy outright, and we usually (2 of us petty heavy internet users) use $140 per month - 16gb.
So why can't I use that on the same plan as you mention, and get more gb's for less - or you could - the only difference is account or prepay - I prefer prepay for on the roadl.

if you have your own device you can go casual, same sort of thing as pre pay, you can opt out anytime. they will just send a new sim card
We use Prepaid. Mine on $30pm. cash paid rolls over, and I get $700 calls. + $650 pm bonus.
1.5gig of that internet stuff plus bonus 1 gig (Never used it)
We only use phones AS phones though.
Di has Prepaid. $30 per 2 month. NO credits.
but her calls all over western world, are 15 CENTS a minute.
Talking to son in NC. t'other day about baby. cost her $7.30
for around 45/50 min's.
I transfer my $30 cash ea month and she has trouble using it all
Has around $340 credit at present..
Also have Tablet for using through local networks.
Most O/S hotels and such have free (just sign in) networks. or use either mobile as hot spot.
I was offered a cheaper plan without even asking for one, plus a free Samsung Galaxy Tab A Tablet. I was querying a couple of charges on my bill from a third-party provider that I'd never heard of, let alone signed up with. After that was fixed up, the Telstra guy looked at my account and said he could do a better deal. So instead of a 4G wireless modem with 8GB of data plus phone on a plan (including 2.5GB of data) which totalled $159 per month I now pay $125 per month with 16GB shared between modem, phone and the new tablet, and phone includes $1,000 worth of calls per month - I wouldn't spend that much on phone calls in 10 years! Only had to pay out remainder of existing contract which was just over $400. Wireless modem has a fresh 24-month contract while phone and tablet are 12-month.
My sister asked about cheaper plans a while back - she has ADSL internet and landline phones in two homes plus two mobiles. After she told them she was thinking of going with another provider Telstra magically came up with a new cheaper plan that wasn't advertised on their website. So I guess it pays to threaten to take your business elsewhere.

I just recently found out about and changed over to this Pre-Paid plan, called "Freedom Plus" For $30.00 a month, you get $700.00 in calls, $200.00 International calls plus 1.5 GB Data. If you pay again before 30 days is up, the balance rolls over. I currently have almost $2,000.00 in credit. I make a lot of International calls, so once I use the $200.00, the costs start coming off the $700.00 credit. I now use my cellphone for everything inc. 13 numbers. Why I managed to build up so much credit is because, and I just found this out, calls to Telstra numbers are FREE. Also I now usually call people instead of ending a text. Extra good deal from Telstra and also they have the best coverage.

I just read on the telstra web site you need to pay again before 28 days for the roll over (not 30 days)
Still sounds good
How do you know when it is 28 days - do they send you a text or can you pay it automatically every 28 days?

Maybe it is 28 days, not 30. You will receive a text from Telstra about 4 days before expiry, but the expiry date is on the website and I also note the expiry date in my Diary.

I'm on a $30 dollar pre pay plan with Telstra, for mobile, and have a direct debit payment. I still get the 4 day warning but the money comes out automatically when due. Not sure about the time frame but my payment comes out on the 4th of every month
Had a quick talk with a Telstra shop bloke a couple of days ago. The deal the OP is talking about is supposed to be for home use and not mobile use. However he did not see any reason that it could not be used outside the home. The only thing is the plan is not linked with the mobile ones. Some people change their mobile limit back to 1 GB per month when they are not travelling to save money. If you have the home internet plan you would not b able to do that.
I will be going back to spend more time discussing the situation in a few days time.
