More on understanding Vehicle Masses

Gday...

Some more comment about vehicle weights/masses/ratings - I know it has been constantly reported on the forum , but I think the more it is promulgated the better.

http://www.caravanworld.com.au/blog/1606/understanding-vehicle-masses/?utm_source=cvw_newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=review2_title&utm_campaign=cworld-160630&user_id=fef5569bff84bb3b1b3140fe484ae4bc1b07e5f3

We regularly castigate vanners for not being aware of their weights and measures ... given this comment in that website, sometimes it could be the fault of manufacturers hmm -

"I went looking for the GVM and the GCM for our Ford Territory.

Knowing these figures can be important for towing legally, but there was nothing in the manual, no plate in the engine compartment, and no figures on the sticker inside the driver's door. Also nothing by Googling the specifications nor on the Ford website."

Cheers - John

PS -  I don't care if some might think this should be in Techie's Corner ... I believe it is general information and should be afforded the broadest exposure.

I was going to tell you to go to Carsales.com.au and search for your model Territory and then click on specifications and then on weights and measurements as it gives you GVM and GCM on most vehicles but I thought I should check first and guess what no GVM or GCM. Ford must not supply that. Only place I can think of would be on the id plate under the bonnet.

By law it would have to be ON the vehicla at least.
for the Highways/weights and measures dep't.

Even your 6x4 has it on there, compliance plate.

Gday...

hmm sorry Macka .... despite there being a variety of 'plates' on my Land Rover Discovery 3, there are none stating TARE, GVM, GCM ....nuffin.

However, that data is in the Owner's Manual - with a table of figures dependent on model and configuration - and some qualifications.

cheers - John
