Carnarvon Jetty

Hi all,

Has anyone being to Carnarvon Jetty of late. Has any work been done on the Burnt out section as yet. We were there last in 2014 and still Zero then.  It was a top spot to drop a line in, from readings of the past.

Regards Jim

Hey Jim,  Mr Google tells me the following..................

The One Mile Jetty was built in 1897 to serve the State Ships which carried passengers and freight between Carnarvon and Perth. Before the construction of the North West Coastal Highway, shipping provided the only link between Carnarvon and the outside world. The tramway was built to link the town and the jetty, crossing the mangrove swamps around Babbage and Whitlock Islands. The jetty was engineered by James Price in the late 1800s and was used as a deep sea port until the 1980s. Fire destroyed a section of the jetty in 2007 but it has been restored to its former glory with the help of the National Trust.

Hi KiwiJim,

Thanks for your info. I have just been on the Fishwrecked  website and asked PM/ John ( Carnarvonite)  a local who I have had feed back since 2011. He posted in early June that indeed its up and running again.smilesmile I will wait for a return PM to confirm. The very end still needs restoration with donations to the National Trust.

The WA government and state fisheries were also contributing to save it. A National Treasure.

I have magazines from the late 70's with stories/ photo's of some great fish caught from the jetty. Its still on my bucket list. As is Steep Point. I will keep everyone posted.

Jim
