How do we get a start?

My partner and I are looking to do a trip sooner rather than later around Aus for at least a year or so and it could become permanent. We are in late 40s and early 50s and so need to work whilst we are doing that and obviously would be happy to stay places for a few months at a time to achieve this. My query is how do we get a start and get someone to give us a go work wise? Together I think we are pretty employable I have had multiple responsible admin jobs over the years and my partner has his own handyman and gardening business. We would be happy to give these up if we find a few months paid work initially. I have looked around and notice there is a fair bit of work which is in return for a site and power etc but not sure how we can find paid work. Doesn't have to be great money and I think we would have the skills to do relief caravan park work for example but all the jobs I have seen are looking for previous experience. Just wondering what others have done as can't imagine we are the first people who want to work and travel. Thanks for any advice or comments.

Hi Polly, I'm not much help with your topic sorry but I wonder had you looked on the blue toolbar at the top here, you'll see "search" click that and you'll see "advanced search". Type in "working while travelling" and you will see previous comments on this topic. Also on the left hand of the toolbar you will see "grey nomads website" go in there and down the left hand bottom you will see "help wanted" maybe check that out too.

Someone may have first hand knowledge also for  you. Good luck and have fun.

Cheers Dianne

Hi Polly, I just joined my daughter up to "Workabout Australia". $33.00 pa - You can go onto their website for free but don't get the brand new adds/jobs straight away plus other stuff that they offer members. A wide range of jobs all round Australia. A bit light on in WA but Ok elsewhere. There is a mixture of paying jobs and part pay/food/accommodation packages as well. Caravan park, pubs, backhoe operators, all sorts of stuff. Worth a look just to get a feel of what there is out there. When I paid for my daughter there was NO sign up fee due to Brisbane Caravan Show so if you like it try that angle to miss any sign up fee ( if there is one )

Best of luck Neil

G'day Polly

We've had our MH for 12 yrs now and are on the wallably for most of each year. Dusing that time we have worked for ourselves a bit, and seen plenty of others along the way. One favourite way is to leave 1/3-A4 page flyers around the town at all of the servo + the TAB + the medical centre + the IGA etc. etc., where that slip of paper gives your contact details as well as a dot-point list of stuff you can do

There are plenty of places where the farmer is too busy out in the paddocks to refit flyscreens, paint a room, fix cupboard doors, do some welding of a broken farm gate and so it goes on. If your flyers make it plain that you're in the area for a month or so, jobs will start to arrive

Hope this helps
Phil

Thanks Phil, the flyer is a great idea, we are not fussy and happy to do most things just want to be able to earn enough money to pay our bills at home and obviously be able to keep travelling :)
