"Bugger" now the eyes are shot !!

I just can't win lately, I thought we had seen the last of our health issues, what with the Young Bloke falling ill after his trip to Singapore,

Now it's my turn, I have just returned from the Eye Specialist, he has conformed that I have Cataracts in both eyes and will have to have an operation with-in the next couple of months.

Well after planning a Wild Flower tour of the North West for the fifth Year in a row only to find things had gone wrong up till now, it looks like it will be another year before we will do this trip.

I am still hopeful that the Operation is done real soon, so we can at least see some of the Wild Flowers displayed in the Southern Regions before they fade away for yet another year,

As I said.... "Bugger"

RE: "Bugger" now the eyes are shot !!

G'day Ken,  "Yes" I have been told by others that the operation is pretty simple and one person said that he had it done under "local "

It's just that My old Man had it done, way back in the early 60's, I think back then in that time, it must have been in the Experimental stage,

Because it was a failure for the Old Fella, He came out of Hospital Blind, The Surgeon actually admitted he had "stuffed-up",

The poor "Old Bloke" was a true Nomad, he lived for his old Bedford Camper van, which took to every corner of N.Z.

It really Knocked his socks off when he was told, he would never see again, it must have been very hard to carry on after the failed operation, he spent the rest of his life sitting in a wheel chair and talking about his travels.

So with this in mind, it does cause a bit of concern, although I have no doubt the procedure has been developed and improved a lot, since the days of 50 odd years ago.

I still think with the eyes, you only have one chance for someone else "getting it right" the first time, because I sure as hell, don't want to end my days as blind as a bat. !!

I had both eyes done under local anesthetic 2 weeks apart and it is an instant result. i used to wear multi focal glasses and no longer need glasses at all.

I bet you are feeling happy with you're results Clare,   I've worn glasses all my life, just can't imagine not wearing them any more,

If I was to get the same results, I think I would have to wear glasses with plain glass in them just to feel properly dressed.

It took me awhile to get used to no glasses. I kept pushing them up my nose and there was nothing there

RE:

had my left done 3 weeks ago, on the 3rd day my vision was good but gone down hill since then because of swelling in the back of the eye. Putting lots of anti inflammatory drops in ATM and see the specialist at the end of the month. Not at all happy yet. Takes about 8 minutes to do, all under local, they started the pre op drops about 2 hours before op best of luck blaze

"Bugger" now the eyes are shot !!

Things are progressing at a snales pace at the moment, I went and saw the Specialist in the Hospital a week ago,

I had a few tests done and five minutes later, I was out of there, none the wiser but $103 bucks lighter in the back pocket,

Today I had to go to the Specialists room on the other side of the City for an Eye Scan, this took all of another five minutes.

"Oh" and the loss of another $115, although a large majority of these payments are refunded through Medicare, it's still a pain having to pay out twice, because the Hospital didn't have the Equipment on hand to do all tests in the one place.

Now I wait to hear when I undergo the Surgery, they wouldn't put any date on it, only said some time in the next few months.

I said to the receptionist, get a wriggle on,
the Wild Flowers are a coming !!

Intra occular lenses

Hi KJ, The key difference between the op your dad underwent 50 years ago and the op today is the use of intra occular lens implants.50 years ago the frosted lens in the eye was removed and nothing was put back to replace it. This meant really thick spectacle lenses. Now days the frosted original lens is replaced with a synthetic one and in a lot of cases the result is near perfect vision. That said, there is always some risk with any operation but it is pretty small risk. I hope it all went well for you.
