Just word of advice to those wishing to see the beautiful Bungle Bungles. Firstly the caravan park $35 a night for unpowered no water Free park on the road 1km away. some peope left their caravans unattened at the free camp and went for the day. I have now found out that you can park your van at the caravan park for the day for $20. The road in... the first part 53km is owned by Mabel Park Station and has not seen a grader for many years. Large rocks huge corrigtions and wash aways. It took 2.5 hrs to drive the 53k. We passed two cars who had either broken axles or split tyres. The next section of 45ks that is national park is not a lot better and the park charges you for the privilege . The Bungle Bungles are beautifull . However if you damage your vehicle you might not think so.If you are going go early as it is dark by 5pm and this is definitely not a road for traveling at night...there is also stock roaming around and several rough water cossings not deep but very rough.
Thanks for that looks like we won't be going then, did you notice some of the roads they've used molasis or something to suppress the dust , bloody stuff sticks to the underside of the car ,hope it washes off.
We went into the Bungles 2 yrs. ago. Left the van at CP at the entrance and tented 3 nights in there. Absolutely loved it. The road in was rough, but the Cruiser with a 2 inch lift handled it all right. I can remember vehicles roaring past us when stopped to take photos.
After talking with some that had "been in" we chose to take the chopper ride from the Warmun roadhouse. Mounted the Go-Pro on the side so I wouldn't be distracted filming the trip, it was AWESOME & saw heaps you would never see by road. Was expensive but well worth it.

When we drove in 16 years ago, the track was OK & we had 24 easy water crossings. Counted them on the way out. The vehicle shook off one of the two spot lights & I saved the second. When walking one water crossings, I noticed it hanging by the wires.
We used the mate's 4WD because his wife was frightened of helicopter flights. It was worth the effort but we would have rather done the helicopter trip.
I spent three hours in and three out, happy to do so ......after all isnt that why we have 4WD s to go see these amazing places. Stayed 4 nights in a tent. Best trip ever. So much to see and enjoy.
Driving in and out in a day seems very pointless and I would not suggest anyone do that aulthough many will do so.

On our last trip, stayed for a week. 3 days of that occupied by walk up to Picaninny Gorge and 2 nights camped up there, by two of us. Spread all the other gorges/walks out over the time, rather than rushing round and hurrying them. Was great. One did a heli trip from Bellburn camp area - saw where she'd done the long walk, plus lots more - worth the money.
I think driving in just for a day trip would be really frustrating - would have a sense of so much not seen.
I did fail to mention that we did a 3.5 hr flight from Kununarra over the lake and the bungle bungles otherwise you are correct one day is not enough to see and feel the enormity of the area
Drove in with 4wd and off-road camper trailer. Almost two hours to do 54k! Spent three nights, loved it. Flew over two years ago, which was great, from Kununurra - well worth it!

We went in a couple of years ago and stayed for a week, fun drive in got to put the hubs in again, next time we'll hang for a fortnight and spend more time hikin in those awesome gorges and enjoyin the scenery ,don't be scared to slip the truck in 4 high and have an adventure, you only live once and the bungles are a place of great memories.
We flew over the Bungle Bungles also by helicopter from Warnum last year. There was no way we could have driven in, in our vehicle and because it was grey nomad season and school holidays coach tours were booked solid. Expensive yes but it was really something I wanted to see. But then we did a fair bit of free camping that trip and were frugal in other ways. It balances out. Wish I would have thought of the Go-Pro like The Doo Crew". Hubby did set his camera on video and got some footage that way.

3 years ago we had friends who were travelling about a couple of weeks ahead of us. We caught up with them as we came out of the Bungle Bungles. They had been in there before visiting Broome and were on their way back east. They had taken over 3 hours to get in and out of the National Park. When we went in the graders had been in the previous week and we had a leisurely 2 hour drive in. You can only take the conditions as they are at the time you are there.
It is in fact a total of 53 kms.
It is posted as 4WD.
Air down by 30% for a cushy ride and to avoid leaving worse corrugations for the next guy.
BTW For the first few kms after the turn off from the highway there is Telstra mobile reception.
