Now here's an interesting one:   One of the mods on another forum (the largest forum of this type) has recently posted that the members of this forum 'whinge' about members on his forum.   He's also of the opinion that all the members here tend to do is say g'day to each other.   Of course the title of his post says it all:    'Just a reminder about keeping up appearances', one has to wonder why the mods have to ask members to behave though doesn't it?   I've been a regular on that forum for a number of years and they are absolutely chock a block full of armchair experts arguing their knowledge at the drop of a hat, and argue they do - incessantly.   So to the 15 members on this forum (apparently that is all the members this forum has, keep up the friendliness, good vibes and g'days you are streets ahead of the other forum.

What makes you think it was this forum that prompted that post?
I doubt that very much.
Of course you could always ask him if it bothers you that much rather than make stuff up.

Cheers,
Peter

Well speak of the devils. Doesn't bother me at all, I think it is rather humorous though! Not made up and not rocket science is it, although being one of the armchair experts I spoke of, no doubt you'd like an argument - or two.

Mmmm, I reckon I'm one if the welcomers. Always have, always will. Why? Cos when I first joined this GREAT forum many moons back now, I was welcomed and it felt good, I felt welcome. I not only welcome new members I join in chats, ask questions and assist with any questions asked by others if I think I can contribute and have a bit of fun along the way. The other great thing  is I have met many people from this GREAT forum and formed life long friendships. Many I ring or email weekly. I don't know this 'other' place but this is a GREAT FORUM. OH! And I tell you that for free.

Hey Tony. I've read your post 3 times now after reading some of the reactions it got.

Seems to me youre not slagging off this Forum or the people on it, but just passing on what has been posted by a Moderator on another site by the G.N and his/her claims that we're a bunch of 15 or so whingers :))

I was just on the other forum and read that post....he didn't mention the name of any forum.
I am a member on both and find both generally interesting and informative.

I am a moderator on two other forums ( not caravan related ) and both these caravan forums are fairly normal if we compare members general reactions and comments.

I enjoy both sites.

Just seems to be related to the politics of envy, the Mod of the other forum, which ever that may be, just wishes that theirs was as good as this one.

Peter, you are right he never named the other forum, but it taints all of the other caravan Forums.

I don't know why an Administrator of the most popular caravan forum would bother making cheap snide remarks at the opposition. An apology would be nice.

I've been out all day prospecting the Whipstick....2 tiny nugglets and many .22 bullets and old revolver ballshots the result...at least 20 Kangaroos and several Wallabys eating peacefully near me........

My point?......I'm so glad I didn't stay home and read all this twaddle...I only care what one moderator says...our own Cindy....how can another moderator on some other Forum possibly affect us here or have any bearing on our/this Forum's lives....?....

Get out and enjoy...who knows when it will abruptly come to an end for each one of us...?
Please let's not make this thread another chest beating/hand wringing 2 page exercise in futility...why we do it so readily to ourselves, is the real question/concern....Hoo Roo

Yea.

I was a member of that other forum in it's original state.
B4 it went "modern" and the "controllers" took over,

Was a nice friendly helpful group of blokes and females.
We had open chat group as well.

But after a certain person died. It changed.
and the little ///// in charge became another Hitler.

I and a lot of others departed.
Specially me. I speak my mind (not so much nowadays)
But it didn't go down well with a couple of the you know what's.
Probably cause I've had over 50 yrs doing it and they haven't..

Funilly though. we met a lot of the originals at van meets and group meals
arranged in different States.
We all got on well.
BUT not the "management". They tried to control every word written.
and it ended up a little clique.

Lots of people join and lots of people leave.
There are some real good blokes on there. Don't know how they stand it myself..

This forum is great, nice friendly people and no arguing. It simply annoyed me that someone on another forum that is basically just argument central would denigrate another for being friendly. Although a member, I don't participate in 'that' other forum but I do read it frequently mostly for the entertainment value. It would appear this post has upset some, simple solution, mods please delete this post if you deem it inappropriate.

I read that post on the other forum and personally, I think that most of you are over reacting, the moderator concerned did not have a shot at this forum, his reaction was a comment about the OP accusing the other site (his) of being argumentative and antagonistic towards other members, whilst that may be true, it is simply because of the very large membership in comparison to this one (which he didn't name but did refer too). He merely reacted to those comments and asked the CF members to please try refrain from antagonistic behaviour, fair enough I thought. Perhaps his only lapse or possible mistake was to suggest that only around 15 members per day post here and a lot were only whingers, uncalled for and unwarranted but sometimes true, mostly false...at the end of the day, does it really matter, I belong to both forums and enjoy both immensely, they each have their own characters, agendas and interests.

I would have to agree that this site is more close knit and interactive and friendlier between members, again that is simply because of the much smaller membership which fosters closer relationships.

I also am a moderator of a world wide site with many thousands more members than both these RV sites and I can assure you that we have more membears arguing and antagonising others than 5 times both of these sites combined, it purely a numbers game and that's all.

My view is, whatever floats your boat be happy and enjoy, you will please everybody and grass fires will always erupt, the bigger the paddock the more the fires, the fact and real truth is, being a moderator is a thankless job and and your time is completely taken up by the old 80/20 rule, 80% of members never cause any trouble, the other 20% are a perennial problem and need watching like a hawk and that takes an immeasurable amount of time, believe me the thanks are negligee and critics are plentiful And in never ending numbers.

I believe that the moderation on both sites is very good and this site is definitely tighter controlled, but I say this with great respect, if the "The GreyNomads" forum had double the membership or more, Cindy would need assistance to control the posts and comments, that's just a given and I believe that she would agree with me.

let's just be thankful and enjoy the sites and forums that we have and be appreciative that we have such competent people in moderation on both for our own enjoyment. I take my hat off to all the moderators, their job is never ending and time consuming, it deserves our full respect.

in my opinion

Hi all,

When I joined the GN's I did not know Peter from Paul or Larry & Julie, Bruce & Bev for that matter. We love to reply where we can, with our own Knowledge. Ask for help on lesser Knowledge as we now have a new van from which to build upon with your help.

We will be up and away very soon. The endless help has been a god send. Just last week we got help from The Phantom on our trip to China. A big thankyou.

We are side tracking on our Adventure to visit friends (met here on this site) that we have yet to come face to face with, in Sand Groper Land.

Many leave the GN's because of ill feeling's generated from posts of poor taste. A very sad outcome, as over the longer term we lose their knowledge. No one is perfect. If one shows respect, then in turn,  you gain respect.

The biggest thing here, is been able to say Sorry.

We have the greatest respect to our Web Master ........ Cindy

Thankyou Cindy for A great site that brings many happy hours of FUN everyday, of every week.

Everyone here comes from all walks of life. In the end we are all the same. All I / We ask is to treat each other with mutual respect. Regardless of what we say and do.

Hey Jim & Lambie

If you have actually read the post from Lance it never named a forum, so why are we having a whinge. Yes I am a member of both, when I have had enough of the bickering and backstabbing, I take a break and just stay here for a week or two and then stick my head in CF and see if anything has changed LOL. It does have some interesting information, so does here.
GN is so much more friendly than any other Forum and that is main reason I stay here, for the friendly way we all get on most of the time LOL and the interaction that is not on the CF.

Thanks for all the positive feedback everybody. I think I'll close this thread now, though. We can only control what we can control ... which is this forum and making sure that all visitors here find the information, the friendship, the fun, or the encouragement they are looking for ... or any combination of those. Thanks to all of you to making this such a great forum.
