, Can't think a caravan park owner would we out at 2 30 am ,15 klm out of town chasing people for free camping
There is enough of that sort of thing going on around Qld. They often travel with socks filled with quick drying concrete. The dunnies at Calliope River Rest area have been choked up with those socks a couple of times. The vehicle from one of the local caravan parks was seen driving away before the blockages were discovered. The observers did not get a good look at the driver so no charges could be laid.
The limited stay camping area at Bluewater Park (29 kn N of Townsville) was hit in the same way a few times. However the proprietor of the park nearby was caught doing it. He was fined heavily and also damages were levied against him.
The situation is even more dire than the ones you don't think are happening.
You don't here about Bowen much these days ion the forums but at one time there was a concerted campaign to boycott the area. Most of the history was lost when the MSN hosted forums were closed down in 2008 (it was not practical to transfer the old forums across on to the new style hosting.)

I think it is necessary just to consider the situation. Someone stopped in the middle of the night and put a notice on a windscreen detailing that it was not permitted to have an overnight stay. I can understand if someone stopped you in the middle of the day and warned you off, but all they really have done is warn you whilst you were in the act.
These type of matters are known as "regulatory offences". Things like littering, smoking in public places etc fall in to this category. There is no need for the prosecuting party to prove that you intended to do anything wrong, just that you did it.
Using defences such as "I felt very tired" will not only mean that you need to come back for your court hearing, but you also run the risk of demonstrating to a court that as you can feel drowsy without notice, you may not be in the necessary physical shape to hold a licence. All those ploys have been used at various times, all with the same result. As for waving a stock whip around, the likelihood of gaol would not be an issue, the likelihood of spending time in a mental health facility would be more of a likelihood.
Just because we have a caravan does not mean we have right to stop and stay wherever we choose. A little planning and one always finds place. I rarely stop in caravan parks and yet I don't seem to have people bothering me. I just look for an out of the way place, off the main road, no issues at all.
I would hate to think that we would all blame a town because someone decided to point out something we all should know.

Spoken like a typical Lawyer....never actually said, not withstanding, it was NOT acceptable to flash lights in their windscreen at 2.30am in the morning or to approach/ touch their windscreen at that hour......just said a lot really without really saying anything...
The point of the opening question was lost in the pedantics as usual...as I read it..they were not camping as such..they had been driving and pulled into a rest stop that had NO SIGNAGE to the contrary to the action they carried out by stopping.....and RESTING.....I've done it many times...have been lucky enough not to encounter any loose Lawyers not the 'Message Leaver/Caravan Park Promoter' who obviously had an excellent knowledge of the applicable fine...and also directing them to sleep in a CP........
Many times I have arrived to late to enter a Caravan Park....they are not available 24 hours..LIKE a Roadside Rest site is.....Your Honour... Hoo Roo
If there had never been any Lawyers..there would never have been any need for them......Hoo Roo

OK you have all had your say and apparently missed the point of the post. I was just relating an incident. As such, it had to be somebody from Bowen. The person was rude. Just be aware, that if you park within the Bowen Shire it could happen to you. So all you self righteous people can now go back into your holes.
Free Camping has been practised in this Country for the last 80,000 years until the Caravan Park Association decided about 10 years ago it should be (for Greedy reasons) stopped. They have a business model which is failing and they want laws to prop it up. One one side you have the likes of Home Hill who are embracing Free Camping and the benefits it brings to their town and on the other side Ayr who fine anyone who tries. Just like this forum, people have their own views which won't be changed. Time will tell who wins this war, if Free Campers are Free loaders, Home Hill will change their Politics. If Free Campers are of Financial benefit to Communties (not just caravan park owners) then Towns like Ayr will change their Politics. The Battle front is on Forums like this where information is given about the Free Camping friendliness. Long may the Battle Rage!!!
