Ah!! bloody hell Aussie Paul.

Needed to put diesel in the Pajero. Eril gives me the rewards card and after an appointment I stopped at the servo. A bit of a wait but no rush these days. Pulled into position flipped the filler open, grabbed the nozzle and away it went. Suddenly something sounded not right and I let go the handle. UNLEADED!!! I had put 7 liters into the approx. 80 liter tank!!!!

I figured if I filled the rest with diesel the % was not that high. I had known truckers who added a little petrol but that was many years ago. So 8 km later I am home absolutely peeved with myself. nod.gif nod.gif I checked with my mechanic as well as going online to find the repercussions on these common rail diesels. It appeared to me that less than 10% petrol and not towing would be ok. Anyway decided to shove the garden hose down the Pajero tank and after a gob full of diesel I had the fuel decanting into 20 liter containers. I managed to get 35 liters and then filled up again with the CORRECT fuel.biggrin

I had a guy I knew who put diesel into his Subaru powered gyroplane and then put unleaded into his diesel Landcruiser on his way home from Alice Springs. He was a Jumbo Jet check captain with Qantas.biggrinbiggrin

Wouldn't muck around with single rail . They are so far higher tuned.. Did the right thing draining most out ., As discipline action the big fella made you swallow some ..lol I add a little 2 stroke oil to my old diesel but that's another story .

I nearly did the same thing in a service station in Horsham. Four hoses in a row intertwined with each other with no color coding or name of fuel on the nozzle. Untangled the mess & I was about to put petrol in my diesel tank. Easily done in some instances.

Did the same thing last year, some months later had to replace the high pressure fuel pump, $1400 ---ouch, another 3 months later had to replace the oil filter $1500 double ouch !! Own Stupid fault, always wondered of they were related to the unleaded in the tank which was drained after driving 8 ks....

I have done it too Aussie Paul, but I managed to put 75 Litres (Fill) of Premium Unleaded, yes the high priced stuff, not thinking in a world of my own at the time.

I only realised when I went to but the nozzle back onto the diesel bowser and stood there wondering why there is one already there.....in a world of my own still.confuse

On a flatbed back to home and drained the tank to get 4 x 25L containers of cleaning fluid.

What hurt the most was how much I spent on fuel that day, the tow was a free NRMA job.doh

Why would you replace the oil filter, $1500 must be gold.

Must admit I have done it twice over the last 10yrs also I known the a few tanker drivers to make the same mistake.

Even thou the pipe nozel are coloured coded the connection is the same size.
