Over the last 5 or so years I have been having funny episodes where I would feel I was about to faint & things would start to go black but it only lasted a second or 2 & the all was ok again. These episodes would come at random times - sometimes 1 a month, sometimes 2 a month, then maybe none for a couple of months & then 3 in 1 day. Had all sorts of tests - stress tests, echo cardiogam etc. Nothing showed. Haven't had one of these episodes for ages & thought they were a thing of the past. Then last Friday I had 7 episodes, 1 on Sunday. Monday I had an appointment with surgeon who is doing my procedure tomorrow. After that we called into Woollies for a loaf of bread & then I had 3 episodes crossing the car park to car. Then all went haywire. Keith took one look at me & rushed me to emergency (Luckily we were not far away). I was rushed straight into resuss room & it was just like you see on TV. Lots of staff calling out instructions. Pads were being stuck on me even before I could get onto bed, my shirt& bra whipped off even before curtain was pulled across. Apparently my heart rate was 230/min, heart rhythm was all over the place, BP was too low & nurse told Keith they have to work quickly as her heart will not stand this pace much longer. Anyway they were able to get my heart back into normal rhythm without having to ZAP me. So I spent time there in emergency until heart rate came down to acceptable level. Then I spent the night in hospital on monitors. So they now have give me medication which should keep my heart on a steady rhythm (another pill to take!). Feel fine today except yesterday I had injection into eye & this time it bled a bit so have bloodshot eye. Not a good look.
Anyway today is surgery at 4.30pm. My social life is wound around medical facilities. But better than being dead - I think that would be SO boring. Hope this post has not bored you all
So sorry to read this Alice. Have been thinking about you today knowing you were having the procedure.
OMG. How much can one body take. It's just not fair.
Hope all goes well today and next treatment isn't too far away.
Thanks for good wishes. Had my procedure yesterday (insert portacath). Was supposed to take place 4.30pm. Was advised when we got to hospital that everything was running behind time. So Keith went home & would come back or me later. Well they didn't finish with me until 10pm (I hadn't eaten since a cuppa/bikkie at 10am) It was then decided it was too late to send me home so they gave me some supper & a bed for the night. A lovely quiet room compared to the one I had on Monday night so I had a good sleep. Portacath put In left side just below collar bone. Not sore at all. But I am sporting a very bloodshot eye caused by the injection I had into it on Tuesday. I have decided to call this week my Mad Medical Mayhem for Month of May. Cheers Alice
No chemo today. When I told them about Monday heart turn I was told although I might already I might have had a small problem the chemo drug I was getting can contribute to a heart problem. So chemo stopped until I have appointment with oncologist on 15/6. He will probably change the drug I am getting. Who knows. Alice
Oh, Alice, just caught up with this post - how awful for you and for Keith. I hope they sort the pill issue out quickly. I think you will be calling this year "Annus Horibilous"!!!
Keep us posted, and look after yourselves. You are an inspiration to so many nomads, including us. Take care.
