Another Rego question

Hi,

We're Brits but are picking up a new motorhome in Queensland in September.  The dealer selling us vehicle will register it in our names but to his address.

I believe that the rego has to be renewed every year.  Is it just a matter of paying for it yearly or do you also receive updated paper work.  I suppose my question is: Can we do everything via email and online payment or will we have to return to Queensland to pick up new paperwork every year?  Apologies if this sounds confusingbiggrin

Thanks in advance for any help.

Queensland motor rego is now online and you also can set up direct debit , In Queensland you can pay 12 monthly or 6 monthly

Also with Queensland rego there is no yearly inspection required. I once saw a toyota hiace with Queenland rego that had a sheet of corrugated iron pop riveted to the roof as the roof was rusted in several places.

But do you get new rego paperwork every year? or is as simple as paying online and the original rego issued stays valid after paying for the next year online.

Yes, you get a new registration certificate every year, mailed to your registered address (the dealer?) about a month or so before the renewal date. I'd suggest you call them around that time to remind them, just in case there's new staff there who are unaware of the arrangement. They can scan the renewal and email to you - payment options are on the certificate. You can pay online for six or 12 months, have to quote a unique reference number on the renewal.

Be aware that if the motorhome has a Gross Vehicle Mass (all-up weight, fully loaded) of more than 4.5 tonnes it will need an annual safety inspection, and a new registration label to be affixed to the windscreen. The label would be mailed to the dealer's address after payment so you'd have to arrange for them to forward it to you.

Queensland no longer have registration labels , And now have direct debit from your bank account , The police use number plate identification .

Thanks brickies and Joe, Im glad it's as simple as that, I thought we would have to return to Brisbane every year to pick up the new rego.

Very happy to see we don't have to

Just to let you know, there is a new free IOS app out called "Regomate" it's a free service and it will remind you when your Rego is due.

I'll use your language to make it simple.

Different states have different rules and fees. This is like different EU countries. Registration in one state or territory is recognised in all other states and territories. An approval in the state or territory of registration cannot be defected by another state or territory that may have differing rules.

In Queensland there is no annual MOT test required. An MOT test (safety certificate) is required when any vehicle in Queensland is offered for sale. It confirms that a vehicle has passed a minimum safety standard inspection.

Yes you just pay it annually (or 6 monthly at slightly higher price) and no tax disc or other MOT label is required to be affixed to your vehicle other than the number plate. All Australian authorities use cameras connected to number plate recognition systems connected to a national registration database that covers all states and territories.

Most states require a compulsory third party (CTP) insurance component for motorised vehicles that can cost you as much or more than the registration component. These are obtained from insurance companies and the prices vary based on your risk.

Victoria is the simplest and cheapest state to register caravans, trailers, and motorised vehicles. Victoria has no separate CTP insurance requirement as it is run by the state as an efficient no fault scheme and is included in your registration.

If your Motorhome dealer has a Victorian branch ask them to register it in that state as you will save hundreds of dollars.

Hi Hylife, thanks for saying it in my lingo

And thanks for the detailed reply, I had read about most of the things you have mentioned in your post, my main worry was, as I mentioned in my previous post, renewing the rego, and now I see how easy it is I can sleep peacefully

From all the things I have read I thought that third party insurance was also included in the rego in Queensland?

Not that this matters as such, because I will be getting all risk coverage anyway.

Cheers,
