As most if not all forum members residing in SA will now know by now. As their current SA ambulance cover comes up for renewal they will no longer be covered for ambulance service out side SA (cost cutting to pay for the new RAH)
It is going to cost me another fifty dollars for BUPA to give my wife and myself cover out side SA that is over and above what we are already paying for our health cover
Interested to know what the situation is in the rest of Australia

Permanent Queensland residents are automatically covered for ambulance services and if we get an invoice for interstate ambulance services we are to forward that invoice to QAS for payment.
I haven't heard of any changes for us here in Queensland. Cheers.
I live IN Queensland and believe I am covered Australia , But I was in your situation I would not leave home without Ambulance cover $50 a year a bargain .

I think you will find that is for emergency cover only and not for Hospital to Hospital (non emergency) transport, if needed, and only for 2 trips a year according to my/our Bupa Cover.
And the emergency criteria is determined by the Ambo Org not by BUPA. But to me $50 is good value, but would still like to be covered for non emergency, just in case the hospital will not allow me taking their "Drip" or other machine in a taxi to another hospital.

Don't forget that the TAC fee (Vic term for car accident insurance) on your registration covers an Ambulance should you have a vehicle accident. I've had two road & one helicopter ambulance trips that were covered by TAC (all motorbike related).
FYI. Two of the costs were:
1. The helicopter ride from Licola (Gippsland) to The Alfred (Melbourne) cost about $7,000 in 2010. Great trip, so I'm told.
2. I think the road trip in early 2000s was about $700 from Victoria Market to Royal Melbourne (only a couple of kms).

Amen adreamer. from where I stand it has to be a cost cutting exercise by the health dept which means the consumer has to folk out more money to cover one's self. Brikies did mention that the $50.00 was a small price to pay and I do agree with him. What I am against is that we will still pay the same subscription for our ambulance cover but will get less for our money when SA members are compared to interstate members
Hi Helen. Never lived in SA, but do agree with you about the roads there - most are shockers. I reckon they lay new roads with "X" amount of corrugations and pot holes per km - you know when you move out of SA into any other State - the road suddenly improves :)
But with regards all the other things - WA is now fast catching up to you. Unemployment rates are almost as high as Tasmania and our Govt cant adjust to the fact that theyre not getting many $M's from mining royalties anymore. Many of the public servants still refuse to accept that their Union can get a 5-8% increase every year when their awards come up for renewal. In the private sector, wages (especially in retail) are actually shrinking.
The upside I guess is if you want to buy a V8 car, boat or jet ski, theyre very cheap here as so many FIFOs bought them and now theyre unemployed they cant afford the repayments. Almost new boats are selling for about $15K rather than the new price of $40-60K.

As a S.A. resident (and I wish I wasn't) I am disgusted with the behavior of our State Government who cares more about overseas junkets, photo opportunities, and personal remuneration greed than it does about the health and welfare of SA residence. The current removal of interstate ambulance cover is solely due to financial mismanagement of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital and its absurd transforming health policy which is doomed to fail. South Australian politicians are not qualified to perform in their respective portfolios, hence bad decisions are constantly made. The Treasurer acts like the Sheriff of Nottingham by taxing state services to the hilt. What we desperately need is a Robin Hood.
