Good Tyres

Hi All,

With my new van came brand new tyres as expected, however they are made in the land of cheap everything.

I'm not keen on blowouts and changing tyres roadside. Can anyone advise their number one pick for tyres?

I wonder, has anyone had really good mileage / service from Chinese tyres?  Should I just run with them?

Cheers Vince

Apparently they are OK up to10 years with tread .. I would use them up to 4 or 5 years . Tyres I have had anything with from there . Are more truck tyre . The cassing is ok . Just grip and road noise .

Hello Vince56

Further to the advice given by AusKiwi

If you can give the name, size, and load rating of your tyre, plus the weight of your new van
Someone with the same brand tyres may be able to give you their opinion, on those particula tyres

As there are tyre factories, and tyre factories, some brands may be OK, and some brands may be rubbish

As a comparison, the Michelin (a good name brand) tyres which are sold in Australia, are to the best of my knowledge, made in either Shanghai in China, one of two places in Thailand, or Chennai in India.

Do we still make tyres here ?????? or are they all imports. Lets face it we don't seem to have all of the essential ingredients here in OZ needed to make tyres anyway

Hi Vince.

Spent many hours researching tyres.

Have a look at Bridgestone RD 613 Steel. Not cheep, but will not let you down.

Regards.

Hetho.

For what it is worth, I have had great service from Pirelli Scorpions.  Two sets so far.  The first set lasted around 7 years (all city driving).  The current ones, replaced around 3 years ago, still have heaps of tread left (approx. 50%+/-).  As with everything, regular checks and balances as well as wheel alignments extend the tyre life.  Not sure how they will travel off road though.

At 70,000 kms, I reckon I have another 15,000 kms left on my michelins. Because of this thread I decided to look up the prices and nearly fell off my chair, $496.00 per tyre is just too rich for me. Although they've given me great service, I'll be looking at the Bridgestone deal where you buy 3 and get the fourth one free. It will be less than half the price of Michelins. Unless I win lottobiggrin
