I remember the corned beef of my Childhood, And the bread that we cut with a knife, When the Children helped with the housework, And the men went to work not the wife.
The cheese never needed a fridge, And the bread was so crusty and hot, The Children were seldom unhappy, And the Wife was content with her lot.
I remember the milk from the bottle, With the yummy cream on the top, Our dinner came hot from the oven, And not from a freezer; or shop.
The kids were a lot more contented, They didn't need money for kicks, Just a game with their friends in the road, And sometimes the Saturday flicks.
I remember the shop on the corner, Where biscuits for pennies were sold Do you think I'm a bit too nostalgic? Or is it....I'm just getting Old? Bathing was done in a wash tub, With plenty of rich foamy suds But the ironing seemed never ending As Mum pressed everyone's 'duds'.
I remember the slap on my backside, And the taste of soap if I swore Anorexia and diets weren't heard of And we hadn't much choice what we wore.
Do you think that bruised our ego? Or our initiative was destroyed? We ate what was put on the table And I think life was better enjoyed.

Hi, I enjoyed the Poem and remember the days like that as though it were yesterday, they were awesome and even living in the white washed camps on the Woodline was fantastic, one didn't think about life being tough you just got on with it. I went to the supermarket the other day to buy some Rekitts Blue, couldn't find any lol, nor could I find Handy Andy or Relax floor polish in the tin lol, or Persil for the laundry, nor raspberry waffle biscuits but instead paper thin biscuits that aren't even worth dunkin. Anyway I enjoyed your post. With a smile Kisha.
I'm glad that most Members liked that Poem, Yes it does bring back many good memories for me as well,
I think the best days of our lives, were the times when everything was a learning experience, like the first time you rode a two wheeler bike, or when you first managed to stand up on Roller Skates without having to hang onto your Mate,
How about your first Dance, anything like me, you were all left footed, and boy did you Partner tell you off after the third attempt to shorten his or her shoes, while trying to stomp around the floor to the tune of the Gay Gordon's ,
For me, all my Mechanical experience came from when I was around 15 yo I always had an interest in engines, so I joined a Hot Rod Club, best thing I ever did, we spent many happy hours pulling a perfectly good motor apart, just to see how it worked, and finally to take part in the very first Drag Race ever held in N.Z. I had an old 49 side-banger v8, "Hell Bells" that was around 55 Years ago !!!
that's enough, I have to go , time for my "Nanny Nap" and hopefully another Dream of Yesterday,
